IT SPECIALIST (INFOSEC)

Summary You will serve as a Cyberspace Data Engineer responsible for providing technical guidance and operational advice to the assigned Cyber Protection Team (CPT) in support of Navy Defensive Computer Operations (DCO). You will specialize in collecting and querying data from various systems and sources. This position is located at CWG-SIX in Fort Meade, Maryland. Learn more about this agency This job is open to The public U.S. Citizens, Nationals or those who owe allegiance to the U.S. Clarification from the agency DoD Military Reserve (MR) and National Guard (NG) Technician Preference eligibles and DoD Retained Grade Preference eligibles and all U.S. citizens Duties You will provide critical support to the Defensive Computer Operations (DCO) hunt mission facilitating and enabling data analytics You will analyze and design data resources including data modeling and requirements, identification, and data flow diagramming. You will manage the compilation, cataloging, caching, distribution, and retrieval of data. You will perform backup and recovery of databases to ensure data integrity. You will effectively allocate storage capacity in the design of data management systems. You will assist in turning data from sensors into critical information and knowledge that can be used to make sound defensive cyber operation (DCO) decisions. You will utilize different programming languages to write code, open and read files, and write output to different files. Requirements Conditions of employment Must be a US Citizen. This position may require a two-year DCIPS trial period requirement. This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time. Work outside of traditional working hours (Mon-Fri 0800-1600) may be required. Qualifications You must have one year of information technology related experience in the federal service or private or public sector demonstrating the following four competencies, as defined: Attention to Detail – Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail. Problem Solving – Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations. In addition to the four competencies above, your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GG/GS-12 grade level in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following such as: Utilize proficiency in extracting data from multiple sources, transforming it into a usable form, and loading it into data stores for use by analysts to conduct defensive cyberspace operations; Configure clients and servers for remote logging with approved third-party data collection tools so they may be ingested to commercial Security Information and Event Management solutions (i.e., Splunk or Elastic); Conduct defensive cyberspace operations, threat hunting, intrusion detection, and network or host analysis to discover, clear, and harden networks against malicious cyber activity.
