Nurse Manager - 2 EW Surgical Telemetry - Full Time 8 Hour Days (Exempt) (Non-Union)

The Nurse Manager holds 24‑hour accountability for the quality of patient care, the efficiency of operations, and human resources management for assigned areas. S/he aims to achieve an optimal patient experience in a cost‑effective manner, applying evidence‑based leadership and practice while maintaining safety and consistency with professional standards and hospital policies. Essential Duties Conduct People Daily rounding with Purpose on Charge Nurses and Patients. Promote effective communication and working relationships within nursing areas and between nursing staff, physicians, and other departments. Lead Unit Council meetings and track progress and outcomes of activities. Select and retain qualified nursing staff to carry out unit care systems in line with hospital philosophy and objectives. Collaborate with Education Department and Human Resources to ensure orientation, training, and continuing education for staff. Lead recruitment and retention activities. Facilitate training of nursing students and other students as needed, serving as coach and mentor. Understand governing regulations, Title 22, and JCAHO requirements; maintain nursing practice standards consistent with hospital standards. Develop and implement a unit‑based performance improvement program complying with JCAHO, Title 22, and other regulatory agencies. Establish systems that support shared governance and management philosophy. Develop customer service standards and expectations. Communicate each staff member’s role in maintaining a high‑performing unit regarding quality; share outcomes of quality monitoring; analyze and change practice as necessary. Collect and delegate collection of selected data elements; provide to Nursing Quality monthly on time. Ensure completion of occurrence reports and investigate timely; notify Risk Management for significant events (“Never 27s”). Coordinate and integrate department services at intradepartmental, interdepartmental, and hospital‑wide levels. Plan provision of services through appropriate staffing levels; maintain policies and procedures supporting scope of services. Lead selected PSMS initiatives; communicate PSMS scores and facilitate necessary practice changes. Use the budget to find more effective care delivery methods; participate in planning and goal setting; monitor space/resource utilization and outside resource use. Approve day‑to‑day deviations from staffing guidelines based on patient need; approve monthly schedules and advance time‑off requests. Apply HR policy and procedure consistently in granting time off and shift requests; complete daily DSR and bi‑weekly payroll activities (Kronos) on time. Coach and mentor charge nurses and staff; monitor new hires’ progress to competent, independent practice. Ensure 100% attendance at mandatory education and training programs (.edu modules). Advance systems and standards that support Shared Governance, Magnet, and Just Culture philosophy; perform other duties as assigned. Required Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing. At least 2 years in a formal management position. At least 4 years of RN experience. Computer literacy in Outlook, Word, and Excel. Excellent analytical, problem‑solving, planning, and evaluation skills. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Commitment to excellence in patient care and customer service. Commitment to continuous quality improvement and results‑driven outcomes. Ability to function independently and as part of a team. Strong organization/time‑management skills. Preferred Qualifications Master’s degree in Nursing or in progress; strongly preferred. Master’s degree in Nursing may substitute for a Bachelor’s degree. Specialty certification. Licenses / Certifications Registered Nurse – RN (CA Board of Registered Nursing); valid California license. Basic Life Support (BLS) – Healthcare Provider from American Heart Association. Fire Life Safety Training (LA City); must be obtained within 30 days if not present at hire. Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) – Healthcare Provider from American Heart Association. ONS Chemotherapy & Biotherapy Certification required; if not held at hire, to be obtained within one year. Pass EKG exam within 90 days of employment.
