Graduate Mental Health Therapist – LMSW/LGPC

NorthStar Counseling & Wellness is seeking graduate-level and emerging mental health professionals to join our growing group practice. Full-time and part-time W-2 opportunities are available.

We welcome LMSWs, LGPCs, other eligible graduate-level behavioral health professionals, and upcoming master's or doctoral graduates who are interested in developing their clinical skills within a supportive, collaborative outpatient practice.

Position Responsibilities

Graduate Mental Health Therapists provide behavioral health services within their professional scope of practice and under appropriate clinical supervision.

Responsibilities include:

• Conducting clinical assessments and identifying client treatment needs
• Developing, implementing, and regularly reviewing individualized treatment plans
• Providing individual, family, couples, and/or group psychotherapy based on training, competency, licensure, and clinical experience
• Utilizing trauma-informed, person-centered, culturally responsive, and evidence-based approaches to treatment
• Monitoring client progress and adjusting treatment recommendations in consultation with clinical supervisors when appropriate
• Maintaining accurate and timely clinical documentation within the electronic health record
• Coordinating referrals and collaborating with other healthcare and community providers when appropriate
• Maintaining client confidentiality and compliance with HIPAA, professional ethical standards, and applicable laws and regulations
• Participating actively in individual supervision, group supervision, case consultation, team meetings, and professional development activities
• Maintaining all professional licenses, continuing education requirements, and professional credentials
• Seeking clinical consultation and supervision appropriately
• Developing increasing independence in clinical decision-making and caseload management
• Demonstrating strong organization, communication, attention to detail, and follow-through

Schedule

Employment Options: Full-Time or Part-Time, W-2

Full-time clinicians may generally structure their schedules across:

• Monday through Friday;
• A four-day workweek, depending on caseload and practice needs; or
• A flexible part-time schedule for clinicians who prefer a reduced schedule or do not wish to maintain a full-time caseload.

Scheduling is developed collaboratively based on client demand, clinician availability, supervision requirements, and practice needs.

Individual clinical supervision, group supervision, consultation, and required team activities are incorporated into the clinician's work schedule.

Qualifications

We welcome applicants entering the behavioral health profession through social work, professional counseling, and other qualifying clinical disciplines.

Current Graduate-Level Clinicians

Applicants who have already graduated must hold an active graduate-level/provisional behavioral health license in good standing that permits them to provide clinical services under supervision.

Qualifying credentials may include:

• LMSW – Licensed Master Social Worker
• LGPC – Licensed Graduate Professional Counselor
• Other equivalent graduate-level behavioral health licenses that are appropriate for the position and eligible for clinical supervision through NorthStar

For graduate-level clinicians, current or anticipated eligibility to practice in Maryland and/or Washington, D.C. is preferred based on the position and supervision available.

Upcoming Graduates

We also encourage applications from students who are currently enrolled in a qualifying graduate or doctoral behavioral health program and anticipate graduating within the next 12 months .

This may include students completing:

• Master's degree in Social Work (MSW)
• Master's degree in Clinical or Professional Counseling
• Master's degree in Marriage & Family Therapy or another qualifying behavioral health discipline
• Doctoral-level Psychology or other qualifying behavioral health program

Upcoming graduates should be eligible, or anticipate becoming eligible following graduation, to obtain the professional license required to provide clinical services in the jurisdiction in which they will practice.

An anticipated graduation date should be included with the application.

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous behavioral health, psychotherapy, counseling, social work, practicum, or internship experience
• Experience or interest in outpatient mental health
• Familiarity with trauma-informed, person-centered, and evidence-based treatment approaches
• Interest in working with children, adolescents, adults, couples, and/or families
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Strong organization, time-management, and clinical documentation skills
• Openness to clinical feedback, supervision, consultation, and continued professional development
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as clinical skills develop
• Commitment to ethical, culturally responsive, and client-centered care

New graduates and upcoming graduates are encouraged to apply. Prior post-graduate psychotherapy experience is not required for candidates who demonstrate strong clinical potential, professionalism, and alignment with the practice's approach to care.

Compensation

NorthStar offers competitive compensation based on professional experience, credentials, schedule, caseload expectations, and position type.

Full-Time Salary Range: $60,000–$70,000 annually, plus eligible benefits.

Full-time compensation is based on established clinical productivity and caseload expectations.

Clinical supervision toward independent licensure is provided as part of employment for eligible clinicians at no additional cost.

Actual compensation may vary based on experience, credentials, schedule, productivity expectations, and other position-related factors.
