Health Care Technician I (S)
The Health Care Technician I will provide facilitative services and quality care for the welfare, safety and security of individuals at Cherry Hospital. Work involves providing ongoing observation, interaction, and feedback to individuals under the direction and supervision of a Registered Nurse. Work also involves working with the interdisciplinary/treatment team and providing input on each individual's care and condition. Work involves ongoing contact with individuals who may be diagnosed with a wide spectrum of psychiatric and/or developmental conditions that may include unpredictable behaviors, maladaptive, and aggressive behaviors. HCT I's implement specific interventions identified in the individual's comprehensive treatment plan.
Salary Range: $35,360 - $38,688
Recruitment Range: $31,200 - $44,261
*A Limited Sign-on bonus of $15,000 may be offered to the successful applicant(s) of this posting who applies between June 1st - August 31st, 2026, contingent on the 2025-2026 Budget Approval.
- Receive $4,000 in 1st paycheck following start date.
- Receive $5,000 after 12 consecutive months.
- Receive $6,000 after 18 consecutive months.
Candidates now meet the minimum qualifications of a position if they meet the minimum education and experience listed on the vacancy announcement. The Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)/ Management Preferences are not required. Applicants who possess the following skills are preferred:
- Nurse Aide I listing by the North Carolina Division of Health Service Regulation. (If applicants are not NA I certified and are selected for a position, training will be offered by the hospital. However, certification must be obtained, and employee must pass all facility required training as a condition of employment.)
- Ability to work independently and as a team member
- Basic knowledge of a variety of psychiatric, intellectual disabilities, medical and/or other related conditions.
- General knowledge of dietetics, sanitation, and personal hygiene.
*As a condition for continued employment: Must successfully pass all required parts of CPI's Non-Violent Crisis Intervention
This Position Is Designated as Mandatory and Must Report or Stay Over During Adverse Weather Events.

Shift Premiums for 8- Hour Shifts:
- Day: Saturday and Sunday 5%
- Evening: Monday-Friday 10%, Saturday and Sunday 15%
- Night: Friday-Sunday 15%, Monday-Thursday 10%
*Eligibility for Sign-on Bonus To qualify for the Sign-on Bonus, a newly hired permanent full-time or permanent part-time employee must work 30 to 40 hours per week to be eligible. Those who are eligible and working less than 40 hours a week will receive a prorated rate.
An employee is not eligible for a sign-on bonus if:
· The employee has held a position in the North Carolina State government, including the judicial system, or the University of North Carolina system, within the last 12 months (the employee shall remain ineligible for 12 months from the separation date)
· The employee has previously received a sign-on bonus from any State agency
· DHHS has paid any contract placement or recruitment fees.
