These providers will be trained in a subspecialty of Gastroenterology including Interventional, pancreas, high risk cancer screening, and motility along with seeing a panel of general GI patients. Under supervision and in collaboration with board-certified gastroenterologists, the Advanced Practice Provider (APP) delivers high-quality care to patients with digestive health concerns. This role is ideal for Nurse Practitioners (NP) or Physician Assistants (PAs) looking for a Post-Anesthesia Care (PACU) type position. Department/Division specs 5 physicians and 1 APP The APP will provide outpatient clinical management including polyp recall navigation, new and follow-up patient care. Patients are seen at the main clinic on the Rush Copley hospital campus as well as in Yorkville Duties & Responsibilities The primary responsibility includes inpatient follow-ups and outpatient clinic Other job responsibilities include managing the patient’s immediate post-operative recovery, ensuring they are stable and comfortable while monitoring vital signs, pain levels and complications Monday – Friday: 36 hours of patient-facing care per week. No weekends, holidays, or on call required Qualifications Experience of 2 years or more of previous Advanced Practice Provider experience in Gastroenterology, Surgery, and Intensive Care is required for this role APRN Candidates will require Acute Care Certification Clinical Care & Assessment Conduct comprehensive health histories and physical exams focused for pre procedure care Recover patients from interventional GI procedures with ability to manage post procedure complications Independent outpatient clinic. Conduct rounds on inpatients with GI diseases like acute pancreatitis and its complications, choledocholithiasis and other biliary diseases, and post procedure follow ups Order and interpret diagnostic tests including labs, pathology, and imaging Prescribe medications and therapies in accordance with state laws and clinical guidelines Patient Education & Advocacy Educate patients and families on GI conditions, lifestyle modifications, and preventive care Promote shared decision-making and informed consent Refer patients to community resources and support groups as needed Care Coordination & Continuity Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and care coordinators to ensure seamless patient care Provide follow-up care and monitor chronic GI conditions Triage patient calls and messages, ensuring timely responses and interventions Position Requirements Nurse Practitioner Current licensure from the State of Illinois as a Registered Professional Nurse and Advanced Practice Nurse or eligible to obtain a licensure through the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR) application process Master of Science in Nursing or Doctorate of Nursing practice with clinical specialty appropriate to position Current certification by American Nurse Credentialing Center (ANCC) or American Academy of Nurse Practitioner (AANP) Physician Assistant Current licensure from the State of Illinois as a Physician Assistant/Associate or eligible to obtain a licensure through the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR) application process Successful completion of an accredited Physician Assistant/Associate Program Current certification from National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) will promote collaboration between multiple disciplines to ensure cost effective and quality patient care. The individual who holds this position will exemplify the Rush mission, vision and values and act in accordance with the policies, procedures, guidelines of Rush, including the Rush Medical Group Customer Service standards. Successful candidates will also meet all other state and federal regulatory practice and accreditation standards. Other information Required Job Qualifications Current State of Illinois Physician Assistant Licensure. Degree from an ARC-PA (or predecessor) accredited PA Program. Current Certification from National Certification Commission for Physician Assistants (NCCPA). BLS certification. Current State of Illinois Registered Nurse (RN) and Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) Licensure. Current Nurse Practitioner Certification from a national certifying organization Graduate from an accredited nurse practitioner educational program. The APN's education and specialty board certification must correlate with the APP's job role, setting, responsibility and patient population. Master's or Doctorate degree in nursing. BLS certification. Demonstrates competency in all areas of APP practice including: medical knowledge, interpersonal and communication skills, patient care, professionalism, practice based learning and improvement, and systems based practice. Skill in preparing and maintaining electronic and paper medical records. Knowledge of current and emerging trends in technologies, techniques, issues, and approaches in area of expertise. Strong work ethic, interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to work autonomously and collaboratively with collaborating physician, department, and other members of the healthcare team in an effective and comprehensive manner. Preferred Job Qualifications Master's degree. Responsibilities Clinical Completes and documents an accurate history and physical examination of patients. Conducts comprehensive or episodic health assessments and develops patient care plans Orders and interprets tests, treatments, and therapies within the scope of practice Prescribes medications, including controlled substances to the extent delegated including non-pharmacologic treatment modalities Orders, interprets, and performs laboratory and other diagnostic tests and procedures. Provides clear, concise, and accurate information in the electronic medical record. Initiate and perform consultations in accordance with Rush rules and regulations Make appropriate referrals to other health care professionals and/or agencies Provides direct patient care in assigned areas, which may be in a hospital or ambulatory setting. Professional Works collaboratively with his/her collaborating/supervising physician, department, and other members of the healthcare team in an effective and comprehensive manner. Acts as an advocate for patients, families, coworkers, and the physician assistant profession Participates in all required provider activities as outlined in the RUMC Medical Staff Bylaws. Integrates evidence based knowledge and clinical expertise in decision making Demonstrates competency in all medical and surgical procedures and skill considered essential in their area of practice Maintains board certification, state licensure, and continuing medical education as outlined by hospital, state, and federal policy. Leadership Supports the organization's overall strategic plan and direction. Serves as a leader of the healthcare team to provide integrated delivery of patient care services Actively participates in ongoing and systematic quality improvement efforts which focus on patient care delivery and supports processes that provide optimal patient outcomes. Demonstrates accountability for own professional practice and improvement. Including ongoing self-assessment of core competencies and yearly goals. Develops and leads implementation of department goals by collaborating with department staff, students, and physicians. Serves as a role model and thought leader for their own profession including practice analysis and advancement to achieve optimal patient outcomes. Manages resources effectively thereby considering the institution and practice's fiscal responsibilities. Demonstrates an understanding of patient documentation, compliance, and billing best practices. Education Provides relevant and comprehensive patient education to patients, families and significant others. Fosters growth and development of students and other healthcare professionals. Continuously assesses their personal capabilities and limitations, striving always to approve their medical practice. Use their knowledge and expertise to contribute to an improved community.
