Director of HR | Full-Time, Exempt, On-Site

About the Role:

Cherry Brook is a 100-bed skilled nursing facility located in Canton, CT. We have approximately 120 employees who work to take care of our residents.

We are looking for a Director of Human Resources to be the face of HR at our skilled nursing and rehabilitation community. This is a hands-on, on-site role — you will own recruiting, onboarding, payroll and timekeeping support, benefits, leave administration, employee relations, and compliance for the building, and you will be the person employees come to first when they have a question about their pay, their benefits, or their job.

You will report to the Regional Director of Human Resources and partner daily with the Administrator, the Director of Nursing, and department heads to keep the community staffed, compliant, and a place people want to work.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

• Process and audit timecards. Review timecards each pay period for missed punches, unapproved overtime, meal-break exceptions, shift differentials, and PTO usage; chase down corrections from department heads and submit clean, verified time for payroll review by deadline.
• Support payroll accuracy. Serve as the facility's link to Payroll — resolve pay discrepancies, process status and rate changes, and make sure new hires, terminations, and leaves are reflected correctly in every pay cycle.
• Recruit and onboard. Run full-cycle hiring for nursing and non-nursing roles — postings, screening, interview coordination with department heads, offers, background and registry checks, licensure verification, I-9s, and new hire orientation.
• Administer benefits and leaves. Answer employee benefit questions on site, support open enrollment and 401(k) eligibility, and administer FMLA, state paid family and medical leave, earned sick time, and workers' compensation claims.
• Handle employee relations. Be visible across all shifts, coach supervisors on documentation and performance issues, conduct or support workplace investigations, and escalate complex matters to the Regional Director of HR.
• Keep the building survey-ready. Maintain complete, accurate, and confidential personnel files, credentialing and licensure records, and mandatory training documentation for Department of Public Health and CMS requirements.
• Drive retention. Track turnover, run stay interviews and recognition programs, and improve the first-90-day experience so good employees stay.

WHAT YOU BRING

• Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business, or a related field — or equivalent HR experience.
• Minimum 3 years of HR experience; long-term care, skilled nursing, or healthcare experience strongly preferred.
• Hands-on experience with timekeeping and payroll processing — reviewing time cards, correcting exceptions, and meeting payroll deadlines.
• Working knowledge of federal and state employment law, including FMLA, wage and hour, and state leave requirements.
• Full-cycle recruiting experience in a high-volume or hard-to-fill environment.
• Comfort with HRIS, timekeeping, and applicant tracking systems.
• Proven discretion with highly confidential employee information, and the ability to juggle multiple detailed priorities in a busy building.
