Description
The Hennepin County Attorney's Office (CAO) is seeking to fill a Paralegal Supervisor position in the Community Prosecution division and create a list for future vacancies across the department. This Paralegal Supervisor will oversee paralegal teams, provide guidance, assign tasks, and optimize workflow to enhance productivity, with a sharp focus on organizational efficiency, and will effectively drive collaboration within the paralegal team.

Location and hours:
This position is hybrid and will be located at the Hennepin County Government Center in downtown Minneapolis at 300 South 6th Street, Minneapolis, MN 55487 and remote as job duties require. Work hours will be Monday through Friday, any time between the hours of 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. While this position is designated as hybrid, based on current requirements hires must reside in or relocate to Minnesota or Wisconsin.

In this position, you will:

• Select, train, mentor, and evaluate paralegals, senior paralegals, and/or professional or support staff.
• Provide work direction, resolve staff questions and problems, ensure daily adequate staffing relevant to workload, and monitor workflow and compliance with deadlines.
• Establish, develop, and implement policies, procedures, and plans for paralegal workloads.
• Recommend, review, and propose appropriateness of legal steps/actions and complex policy alternatives.
• Investigate and recommend action regarding complaints about services, operations, policies, or procedures and assist in resolving legal and personnel issues.
• Serve as management liaison and directly and indirectly work with various county departments and their upper-level management and division heads, other various legal/law enforcement agencies, various outside agencies and organizations, and all County Attorney personnel.
• Communicate management objectives to staff in work units.
• Provide leadership to further department-based strategies that align with county goals, mission and core values for diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Need to have:

• Five or more years of administrative clerical support experience in a legal environment including two years or more of supervisor or lead worker experience.

Nice to have:

• Experience:
  • Supervising and/or managing staff, including a team of paralegals.
  • Working with various case management systems and databases.
  • Addressing racial equity, gender equity, LGBTQIA equity, neurodiversity equity, differing ability equity.
  • Implementing programs that advance racial equity to reduce disparities.
• Certification from an accredited legal assistant program.
• Associate degree or higher in paralegal studies from an accredited college or university.
• Ability to:
  • Communicate technical issues and seek solutions.
  • Provide confidential support to division heads and maintain tact and diplomacy when carrying out job duties.
  • Prioritize and have flexibility to switch tasks quickly.
  • Elicit cooperation and motivate staff.
  • Work effectively with an increasingly ethnically diverse population.
