Controller

Location: Marlboro, NJ or West Palm Beach, FL or Trevose, PA Compensation: $105,000 - $120,000 base salary, commensurate with experience Employment Type: Full-Time About the Role We are seeking a Controller to join our staffing firm and take ownership of the financial operations that keep a multistate temporary labor business running smoothly. This role is a fit for either an experienced finance leader ready to run the function day one, or a strong senior accountant/finance professional who is ready to grow into a controller-level role with the right support. Either way, you’ll understand the unique economics of the staffing industry - bill/pay margins, workers' comp, vendor relationships, and payroll at scale. What You'll Do Own the full P&L for the organization, providing regular reporting, variance analysis, and actionable insight to leadership Monitor and manage margins across multiple states, business lines, and client accounts, identifying trends and flagging issues before they become problems Review and approve payroll for a temp labor workforce, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timeliness across multiple jurisdictions Manage relationships with vendors, including staffing-related vendors (payroll processors, workers' comp carriers, background check providers, etc.), negotiating terms and ensuring cost efficiency Partner closely with the collections function to manage AR aging, cash flow, and client payment issues Oversee multistate compliance considerations that intersect with finance - unemployment insurance, state tax nuances, and related staffing-specific requirements Support due diligence, integration, and financial modeling for potential mergers and acquisitions Build and refine internal controls, processes, and reporting systems as the company scales Collaborate with sales and operations leadership to align financial strategy with business growth goals Mentor and eventually build out a finance/accounting team as the role and organization grow What You Bring 3-5+ years of experience in a controller, senior accounting, or finance leadership role - either within a staffing firm or at an accounting firm servicing staffing clients (strongly preferred) Demonstrated experience managing P&Ls and analyzing margins in a service-based or labor-intensive business Experience working across multiple states/jurisdictions, ideally within temp or contract labor Hands-on payroll approval experience, especially for a variable, high-volume temp workforce Experience managing vendor relationships and contracts Experience partnering with or overseeing a collections function M&A experience (due diligence, integration, financial modeling) is a plus - candidates curious to develop this skill set are also encouraged to apply Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills A growth mindset and interest in expanding responsibilities as the company scales Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA a plus but not required Why Join Us This is an opportunity to step into a critical finance role at a growing staffing firm, with direct visibility into company strategy and a clear path for advancement as the organization scales.
