Director of Business Development – Retail Position Overview: The Director of Business Development – Retail oversees large national accounts and national sales programs for Hellmann’s products and services, ensuring growth and expansion by developing new business while also maintaining existing accounts. Compensation: Base $125,000.00 – $150,000.00, plus benefits including health and welfare programs, 401(k) plan, tuition assistance, and incentive compensation. Essential Duties & Responsibilities Prospect and qualify new customers to maintain a target list of at least 25 qualified pipeline opportunities. Provide input to management to respond to changing market conditions, improve internal efficiency, and maximize results. Maintain strong professional relationships with existing customers, including participation in regular customer business reviews. Anticipate or identify evolving customer needs. Assist in overseas campaigns and overseas visitors’ requirements. Support and assist in the attainment of company goals and objectives aligned with the Hellmann Sales Strategy. Ensure all bids are submitted in a timely manner to Tender Management for proper completion. Prepare client quotations and presentation of proposals. Maintain client records and commercial activity with complete and timely entry of information into the Hellmann CRM system. Update CRM with activities as per company guidelines. Manage approximately 25 target customers. Travel as required. Serve as liaison between customer and operational staff. Perform other duties as assigned. Supervisory Responsibilities This position does not supervise any direct reports. Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management, Logistics/Supply Chain, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and work experience. Minimum 10 years related experience in sales, marketing, and customer service. Proven track record of increasing sales year over year. Minimum six years sales experience in freight forwarding. Proficient knowledge of all Hellmann products and Partner network. Knowledge, Skills & Attributes Financial acumen – understands business development strategy. Adaptability and flexibility to high‑pressure environment. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Email, and Internet. Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as pricing and rate quotes. Analytical and problem‑solving skills. Advanced sales, negotiation and presentation skills, including responding to questions from groups of managers, staff, and customers. Advanced communication skills to effectively present information and respond to sensitive inquiries and complaints from regulatory agencies or overseas agents. Proficiency in world geography, import/export documentation, and Incoterms. Physical Demands Frequently required to stand and walk. Regularly required to sit for extended periods. Regular use of arms to reach, hands and fingers for computer and phone use. Speaking clearly and listening for heavy phone contact. Requires close‑up and computer screen distance vision ability. Requires occasional overnight travel. Work Environment The work environment is similar to an office setting with various office equipment.
