Assistant Project Manager - Mid Level - On-site

ENC Construction & Development ("ENC") is seeking a motivated Assistant Project Manager to join our growing team in Chicago, IL. The Assistant Project Manager plays a critical role in the successful execution of commercial and multifamily construction projects by supporting the project team and taking ownership of key project management responsibilities. This position is ideal for professionals who have developed a strong foundation in project engineer capacity and are ready to lead project processes, coordinate with clients and trade partners, and contribute to delivering projects safely, on schedule, and within budget. Lead procurement for select trades, including bid solicitation, scope review, award recommendations, and subcontracts. Coordinate with project stakeholders to maintain project schedule and quality expectations. Track project costs, prepare budget updates, review subcontractor pay applications, and assist with forecasting and financial reporting. Identify potential risks and proactively develop solutions to maintain schedule, budget, and quality objectives. Support field operations by coordinating construction activities and collaboratively resolving project issues. Participate in project meetings while documenting action items and ensuring timely follow-up. Mentor and support Project Engineers as they develop project management skills. Promote ENC’s commitment to safety, quality, client service, and professional excellence throughout all phases of construction. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field of study (Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, etc.). 2–5 years of experience managing commercial, multifamily, or hospitality construction projects. Previous experience as a Project Engineer or equivalent role. Working knowledge of construction scheduling, budgeting, contract administration, and document control. Experience with Procore or comparable construction management software preferred. OSHA 30 certification is preferred or willingness to obtain. Skills: Strong understanding of commercial construction processes from preconstruction through project closeout. Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, contracts, and project schedules. Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills. Strong financial and analytical skills with attention to project budgets and cost control. Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining attention to detail. Self-motivated, proactive, and solution-oriented with sound professional judgment. Ability to build productive relationships with owners, design teams, subcontractors, and field personnel. Leadership mindset with a willingness to mentor junior team members.
