Job Description

This role focuses on precision stainless steel MIG welding and layout work for fixtures and assemblies, with an equal balance between welding and fit-up activities. You will use computer-based build books and color-coded work instructions to interpret blueprints, weld symbols, and measurements, and then perform both layout and welding tasks on stainless steel components ranging from 2.7 mm to 6.5 mm in thickness. The position requires careful, controlled welding techniques suited to stainless steel materials and adherence to AWS 1.6 Stainless Steel Code standards.

Responsibilities

• Perform stainless steel MIG welding on components with material thickness ranging from 2.7 mm to 6.5 mm, following established standard work processes.
• Spend approximately 50% of working time welding and 50% laying out, building, and positioning pieces in fixtures according to standard work instructions.
• Use computer-based build books and color-coded work instructions to read and interpret dimensions, measurements, weld symbols, and prints.
• Conduct detailed layout work, including fitting parts per the print, using fixtures, 3D models, and on-screen measurements.
• Set up and work within welding fixtures, ensuring proper alignment and positioning of components prior to welding.
• Perform stitch welding and then complete MIG welding operations as specified by work instructions and blueprints.
• Use hand tools to perform fitting, grinding, and finishing work as needed to meet quality and dimensional requirements.
• Apply pulse welding techniques and other appropriate welding parameters to maintain quality and control on stainless steel materials.
• Follow AWS 1.6 Stainless Steel Code and internal quality standards to produce consistent, high-quality welds.
• Use a computer regularly to access and follow standard work, build books, fixtures information, and 3D models.
• Work in designated welding booths, following all safety procedures and guidelines.
• Wear and properly use a special welding hood with respirator provided for work involving hex chrome, and comply with all related safety protocols.
• Maintain a deliberate, controlled welding pace appropriate for stainless steel, avoiding excessive heat input and focusing on accuracy and material integrity.
• Collaborate with team members and follow standard work processes to ensure efficient workflow and consistent production quality.

Work Environment

The work takes place in dedicated welding booths designed for stainless steel MIG welding operations. You will use computer systems throughout the day to access build books, fixtures information, 3D models, and color-coded work instructions, making digital navigation an integral part of the role. Due to hex chrome exposure, welders wear a special welding hood with respirator provided by the employer, and may also use their own hood as appropriate, ensuring enhanced respiratory protection. Uniforms are supplied, creating a consistent and professional appearance on site. The environment emphasizes adherence to AWS 1.6 Stainless Steel Code, safe handling of stainless steel materials, and disciplined welding practices that prioritize precision and control over speed.

Weld Test Information  

To be performed and completed over the first few days up to the first week onsite (As soon as they 'certify' they will move to shift)

2F (horizontal fillet. T joint w/4.8mm material) 4mm fillet weld

2G (horizontal groove. Single bevel, 2mm open root 6.4mmm material) 2 pass groove weld

3F (vertical downhill fillet. T joint w/4.8mm material) 4mm fillet weld

4F 2F (horizontal fillet. T joint w/4.8mm material) 4mm fillet weld

AWS 1.6 Stainless Steel Code

This is a Contract position based out of Houston, TX.

The pay range for this position is $35.00 - $35.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.

This is a fully onsite position in Houston,TX.
