Assistant Custodial Services Trainer Job ID: 5369767 Application Deadline: Posted until filled Posted: Sep 10, 2025 Starting Date: Immediately Schedule / Grade: Hourly Support / Grade 27 Job Code: 96FCSRV647 FLSA: Exempt Benefits: Eligible – 60 day waiting period (Retirees not benefit eligible) Contract Type: Notification Bargaining Unit: None Revised Date: 09/10/2025 Job Description Under the direction of the Custodial Services Training Supervisor, train new and existing custodial staff in proper cleaning methods, procedures, and practices; proper use of cleaning tools, supplies, and equipment; and the importance of workplace safety and approved working methods. Monday-Friday 3:00 PM - 11:30 PM with a 30-minute break. Essential Responsibilities and Duties Assist the Custodial Services Training Supervisor with training programs. Train new and existing employees in approved techniques associated with the District’s Custodial Services Program; provide direction and guidance to custodial employees and inspect completed work for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with established standards and procedures; develop training plans for improvement where needed. Instruct and demonstrate the proper use and maintenance of cleaning equipment, cleaning tools, and supplies. Provide instruction on SDS information, Blood Borne Pathogens, personal protective equipment, safety precautions and procedures, and proper lifting techniques. Provide instruction on proper sanitizing procedures of restrooms and most touched surfaces; effects of germs, bacteria, and viruses; training on proper techniques of cleaning restrooms both by hand and with restroom-cleaning machines. Assist in monitoring the usage of custodial materials, supplies, and equipment; maintain records related to work performed. Assist with custodial training records and production of training materials, instructional programs, and the written Custodial Services manual. Assist with the update of District Custodial Safety Data Sheets. Provide instruction on proper storage and cleanliness of custodial equipment, tools, and supplies in building areas; test new and existing products, equipment, and supplies for use by custodial employees and make recommendations for replacement or improvement. Provide training for custodial employees on proper floor maintenance, including cleaning, burnishing, floor refinishing, and carpet cleaning procedures. Review and assess current custodial practices and methods and make recommendations for improving efficiency and quality of services. Understand and adhere to Board policies and procedures. Perform other duties as necessary to support the mission and vision of Columbia Public School District. Reporting Relationships Reports To: Custodial Services Training Supervisor Supervises: None Qualifications Minimum: Must be able to follow written and oral instructions; one (1) year custodial experience with CPS or equivalent; knowledge of carpet, tile, and concrete floor maintenance; knowledge of restroom, shower, and locker room cleaning and maintenance; knowledge of cleaning agents and materials; general knowledge of basic operating, cleaning, and troubleshooting of custodial equipment; general knowledge of heating and air conditioning units. Preferred: High School Diploma ADA Requirements Language: Read and write in English; interpret documents such as safety rules; write routine reports and memos; respond to requests from staff. Computation: Add, subtract, multiply, and divide using units of currency, weight, volume, and distance. Reasoning: Solve practical problems; interpret instructions given orally or in writing. Technology: Minimal use of technology required, including data entry into inventory records. Other Skills and Abilities: Establish and maintain positive relationships; good personal hygiene; excellent customer service skills. Physical Demands: Regularly stand, walk, use hands and fingers to handle objects, reach, climb, bend, squat, stoop, kneel; continuous hand strength; lift or move 50 lbs frequently; lift or move up to 90 lbs occasionally; push or pull items; vision requirements include close and peripheral vision and depth perception. Attendance: Consistent and regular attendance is essential. Conditions and Environment: Work indoors and occasionally outdoors; near or with moving mechanical equipment; occasional exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals; noise level usually moderate but can be loud.
