Heavy Equipment Operator
Operation of heavy equipment in support of the City's construction and infrastructure maintenance needs.
Position functions include:
- Operate medium and heavy equipment including front end loaders, dump trucks, forklifts, lightning loaders, bobcat skid-steers, mini excavators, street sweepers, vac truck, etc.
- Perform preventative maintenance on equipment. Perform daily pre-trip and post trip inspections of equipment. Keep equipment clean and in good repair.
- Haul sweeper and C&D debris to Seminole County transfer station and landfill.
- Transport equipment to and from the job site and to the City garage on trailers.
- Installation and maintenance of drainage structures. (cleaning of swales and ponds using heavy equipment, installation of pipe, etc.)
- Assist and support other sections, divisions, and departments for City events; including but not limited to: spring clean-up; red hot & boom; foot races; as necessary.
- Support and assist divisional crews in their construction and equipment needs, including but not limited to; performing concrete, asphalt and brick repairs.
- Must be able to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, and follow oral and written instructions.
- Complete required trainings as specified within the City Comprehensive Emergency Management Plan.
- Must be available for emergency call outs and on call duty. Perform additional duties, as assigned.
- In the event of an emergency, all employees are considered essential and may be required to perform duties outside of their normal job description.
Minimum qualifications for Heavy Equipment Operator I:
- One (1) year of experience operating medium to heavy equipment in a utility construction field, to include experience in repair and preventative maintenance of heavy equipment.
- Valid Class B Commercial Driver License (CDL). Must obtain a State of Florida driver license within thirty (30) days of employment.
Minimum qualifications for Heavy Equipment Operator II:
- Three (3) years of experience operating medium to heavy equipment in a utility construction field, to include experience in repair and preventative maintenance of heavy equipment.
- Valid Class B Commercial Driver License (CDL) with tanker endorsement. Must obtain a State of Florida driver license within thirty (30) days of employment.
Minimum qualifications for Heavy Equipment Operator III:
- Six (6) years of experience operating medium to heavy equipment in a utility construction field, to include experience in repair and preventative maintenance of heavy equipment.
- Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) #5 restriction acceptable (No Tractor/Trailers) with Air Brake endorsement. Must obtain a State of Florida driver license within thirty (30) days of employment.
- HAZMAT endorsement.
Preferable qualifications:
- Certified Stormwater Management Inspector (erosion & sediment control). Must obtain within one (1) year of date of hire.
- Obtain and maintain FDOT TTC/MOT Certification. Must obtain within one (1) year of date of hire.
- FSA Stormwater Operator Level 1. Must obtain within one (1) year of date of hire.
- Willingness to adopt AI and emerging technologies.
Applicants will be required to complete a Disclosure & Authorization Regarding Background Investigation, a Confidentiality Agreement and a criminal background screening. Driving history for the past three (3) years must reflect no violations of a driving related felony offense, or driving under the influence (DUI) which includes both drugs and alcohol, reckless driving, or hit and run involving an occupied vehicle or attended property, or an accumulation of traffic violations, plus three (3) points for each attendance at driving school (regardless of whether points were assessed against the license) where the penalty points do not exceed twelve (12). Position is considered at-risk for exposure to Hepatitis B during performance of regular duties. An acceptance/declination of vaccination form is required. If selected, an essential functions assessment is required to measure the ability to safely perform the required physical demands. This position is covered under the D.O.T. regulations for pre-employment drug testing and inquiries.
