Job Title: Temporary Human Resources GeneralistDepartment: Human ResourcesReports To: Director of Human Resources or Designee FLSA Status: HourlyEmployment Status: Full-timePay: $28.00-$33.00 per hourBenefits: Not eligible. Job Summary:The Temporary Human Resources Generalist is responsible for providing day-to-day Human Resources support while a member of the HR team is on leave. This position performs a wide variety of generalist functions including recruitment, onboarding, employee records administration, benefits, employee relations, HR compliance, filing, and general departmental support.   Duties/Responsibilities: Serve as a first point of contact for employees regarding routine Human Resources questions, policies, procedures, and other employment-related matters. Coordinate the recruitment process, including posting vacancies, reviewing applications, scheduling interviews, participating in interviews as assigned, conducting reference checks, etc. Process employee status changes including new hires, transfers, promotions, compensation changes, leave of absence documentation, and separations. Maintain accurate employee records and ensure timely entry of personnel information into HRIS, payroll, benefits, and related systems. Assist employees with benefit enrollments, qualifying life events, benefit changes, COBRA notifications, and general benefits questions. Coordinate pre-employment and ongoing employment requirements, including background checks, drug and alcohol testing, DOT physicals, occupational health appointments, etc..Assist with routine employee relations matters by responding to questions, gathering information, documenting concerns, and referring complex issues to the Director of Human Resources. Prepare reports, spreadsheets, and other workforce data. Participate and assist with planning employee recognition, wellness initiatives, engagement activities, and District-sponsored events. Respond professionally to telephone calls, emails, and walk-in employee inquiries while maintaining strict confidentiality. Provide administrative support to the Human Resources Department, including filing, scanning, scheduling meetings, preparing meeting materials, and maintaining departmental records. Attend meetings, committee meetings, job fairs, benefit events, and other District functions as assigned. Perform all other reasonable duties as assigned.Required Skills/Abilities: Ability to maintain confidentiality while exercising sound judgment.Strong customer service skills with the ability to interact professionally with employees at all organizational levels.Outstanding organizational skills with keen attention to detail.Excellent time management capabilities.Ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.Ability to act ethically, with integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality.Knowledge of employment-related laws and regulations.Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.Ability to work independently and as part of a team with little direction. Education and Experience:Bachelor 's degree in human resources, Business Administration, Psychology, Human Services, or another related field, preferred.An accredited HR certificate is strongly preferred: SHRM-SCP, SHRM-CP, PHR, or SPHR. At least two years of human resource experience is required.Previous transit or government experience a plus.Equivalent education and/or experience may be accepted in lieu of degree. Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:Working conditions are generally indoors, in a temperature-controlled office environment, working closely with others and alone. Possible exposure to dirt, dust, moderate noise, electrical/chemical/mechanical hazards, communicable diseases, angry/difficult people, and construction sites.Essential and other important responsibilities and duties may require maintaining physical condition necessary for walking, standing, or sitting for prolonged periods of time; kneeling, squatting, bending, twisting, and crouching during assigned activities, pushing and/or pulling, climbing stairs, lifting, and carrying materials.Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds at times. Must be able to access and navigate each department at the organization's facilities. Travel: Must have a valid driver's license.  General Work Schedule:Monday through Friday 8:00am to 5:00pm.Additional hours may be required based on operational needs.
