Director, Legal and Regulatory, Real Estate Investment Governance. Global Alternative Investment Manager. New York, NY, 5 days in office.

One of the world's largest alternative investment managers is hiring a Director, Legal and Regulatory for its global real estate group. This attorney owns the group's Investment Committee process and its data governance program, sitting at the point where every real estate transaction is reviewed, classified and routed before it reaches committee. The seat spans every region and sector the platform invests in and carries a mandate to modernize both programs with AI and automation.

What you'll do

• Own the Investment Committee process end to end, from transaction submission through classification, routing, committee review and follow-up.

• Review transactions and advise deal teams on how governance requirements and internal data and authority policies apply to each deal.
\n
• Oversee the team handling initial transaction reviews so every submission reaches committee accurate and complete.
\n
• Drive each committee cycle, including agenda development, issue resolution, stakeholder coordination and post-committee follow-up.
\n
• Turn committee decisions and recurring issues into practical guidance and precedents used by investment and support teams globally.
\n
• Run day-to-day operations of the data governance program and serve as the escalation point on complex master-data questions involving ownership structures and investment vehicles.
\n
• Recommend changes to data model definitions and standards as the business evolves, and maintain the knowledge base of key decisions and interpretations.
\n
• Identify governance and investment workflows to redesign with AI and automation, then lead implementation alongside business and technology teams.
\n
• Provide legal and regulatory support on enterprise risk matters and commercial contracts as needed.

What you'll need

\n
• J.D. and active admission to at least one U.S. state bar.
\n
• 4+ years of legal experience at a leading law firm or investment firm.
\n
• Experience with complex transactions and legal entity structures, along with the documentation behind them.
\n
• Private equity, M&A, real estate, funds or financing experience preferred.
\n
• A track record coordinating stakeholders across legal, investment, operations and technology functions.
\n
• Sound judgment applying policy to novel situations, and the organization to run many deadline-driven workstreams at once.
\n
• Real interest in legal operations and data governance, with an appetite for applying AI to business processes.
\n

Compensation

$250K to $300K base.
