About this Role - Estimator

We are looking for a talented Estimator who has a passion for quality construction. This position is responsible for developing cost estimates and resource requirements for electrical transmission and distribution construction projects throughout the region.

What You'll Do

- Work as part of an integrated Operations and Estimating team in acquiring projects

- Assist project team in scoping projects for engineering, construction, and contractual requirements

- Review plans, specifications, drawings to determine the cost of the project

- Perform material takeoffs and develop an estimate of cost to perform the work according to the specifications

- Prepare budgetary project estimates based on limited information and general scopes of work, often lacking specific precedence

- Develop detailed lump sum project estimates based on company standards and site-specific facility drawings

- Analyze time, equipment, tooling, material and manpower requirements for each project

- Interface with customers, vendors and subcontractors

- Select pool of potential subcontractors and material/equipment vendors to solicit their proposals

- Gather information regarding subcontractor and vendor suitability and determine the best pricing

- Exercise significant independent discretion in developing project estimates and applying "mark-up" and "labor factors"

- Occasionally visiting customer field locations as required to ascertain project conditions

- Attend pre- and post-bid meetings, virtually or in person, as required and be able to effectively present information to clients

- Properly turn over bid documents to Operations

- Assist with the development of standardized historical cost databases and application tools to aid future estimates

- Proven communication, organizational and persuasive interpersonal skills

- Ability to maintain confidentiality

- Knowledge of Microsoft Office and proficiency in the use of Excel

- Knowledge of estimating software programs

- BS/BA in Engineering, Construction Management, Business Mgt/Admin, Accounting/Finance, or equivalent experience (Preferred).

- 3-5 years of experience in the utility construction industry (Preferred).
