Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON)

Paul House & Health Care Center – Chicago, IL

Paul House & Health Care Center is seeking an experienced, dependable, and compassionate Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) to join our nursing leadership team. The ADON works closely with the Director of Nursing to support the daily operations of the Nursing Department and ensure residents receive safe, high-quality, and resident-centered care.

This position is ideal for a nurse who demonstrates strong clinical judgment, leadership, accountability, and the ability to support and develop nursing staff.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Director of Nursing with the daily operations and oversight of the Nursing Department

• Provide clinical leadership, guidance, and support to RNs, LPNs, and CNAs

• Assist with ensuring appropriate nursing coverage and staffing

• Monitor resident care and ensure nursing services are provided in accordance with physician orders, care plans, facility policies, and applicable requirements

• Follow up on changes in resident condition, laboratory results, physician orders, treatments, and other clinical matters

• Assist with resident assessments, care planning, and interdisciplinary care conferences

• Monitor nursing documentation for accuracy, completeness, and timeliness

• Assist with investigating resident, family, and staff concerns involving nursing services

• Participate in quality assurance, infection prevention, risk management, and performance improvement initiatives

• Assist with staff education, coaching, orientation, and competency development

• Support nursing leadership with employee performance and accountability

• Assist with preparation for surveys, audits, and regulatory reviews

• Participate in facility and clinical leadership meetings

• Promote resident dignity, safety, privacy, and quality of care

• Serve as a resource to nursing staff and assist with clinical needs as necessary

• Assume nursing leadership responsibilities in the absence of the Director of Nursing as assigned

• Perform additional nursing leadership duties as assigned

Qualifications

• Current and valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Illinois

• Graduate of an accredited nursing program

• Previous nursing experience in a skilled nursing or long-term care setting preferred

• Previous supervisory or nursing leadership experience preferred

• Strong clinical judgment and knowledge of nursing practices

• Strong leadership, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills

• Ability to supervise, coach, and hold nursing staff accountable

• Ability to prioritize and follow through on clinical and operational responsibilities

• Dependable, professional, and committed to resident-centered care

• Must meet applicable health and background requirements

Schedule

• Full-time nursing leadership position

• Schedule may vary based on facility and resident-care needs

• Weekend and on-call availability may be required
