Insurance Defense Counsel

A leading global litigation practice is seeking an experienced Counsel with 8+ years of experience. This opportunity is ideal for a highly skilled litigator looking to take a leading role in the defence of complex general liability matters. The successful candidate will work on a diverse caseload including New York Labor Law claims, premises liability, catastrophic injury matters, hospitality and transportation claims, and negligent security litigation, while maintaining regular contact with sophisticated insurer clients and industry stakeholders. Responsibilities: Manage a varied caseload of complex general liability defence matters from inception through resolution Handle cases involving New York Labor Law, premises liability, catastrophic injury, hospitality, transportation, and negligent security claims Develop litigation strategy and provide practical legal advice to clients and insurers Draft and argue motions, pleadings, discovery demands, and other substantive legal documents Conduct and defend depositions, mediations, and settlement negotiations Represent clients at court appearances, hearings, arbitrations, and trials as required Communicate directly with domestic and international insurers regarding claim strategy and case developments Analyse liability, damages, and risk exposure to develop effective defence strategies Collaborate with colleagues on complex and high-exposure matters Mentor and support junior attorneys where appropriate Qualifications: J.D. from an accredited law school Admission to the New York Bar and in good standing Minimum of 8 years of litigation experience Strong background in general liability defence litigation Experience handling New York Labor Law and premises liability matters preferred Knowledge of catastrophic injury, hospitality, transportation, and negligent security claims Exceptional legal research, writing, and analytical skills Proven ability to independently manage a busy caseload Strong organisational and case management abilities Excellent communication and client relationship skills Proactive, motivated, and detail-oriented approach Trial experience is highly desirable Competitive salary of $200,000 - $220,000 Opportunity to work on sophisticated, high-exposure litigation matters Direct client contact with leading domestic and international insurers Collaborative and supportive team environment Strong platform for professional development and career progression Meaningful responsibility and autonomy in handling cases Exposure to a broad range of complex liability and insurance-related matters Our advertisements use salary and experience as a guide only.
