We are looking for a Staff Accountant to join a growing team in Redwood City, California in a contract-to-permanent capacity. This role is well suited for an accounting specialist with at least 2 years of experience who enjoys hands-on work, detailed financial review, and supporting a developing accounting operation. You will contribute to core accounting activities, help strengthen the accuracy of financial records, and partner closely with leadership on a range of accounting and tax-related projects.

Responsibilities:
• Reconcile bank accounts, general ledger activity, and balance sheet accounts while investigating and resolving variances.
• Pull financial information from QuickBooks, organize supporting details, and review data for accuracy and completeness.
• Maintain and improve accounting records by identifying inconsistencies, correcting historical issues, and supporting financial cleanup efforts.
• Prepare documentation and schedules needed for tax filings and assist with collecting materials requested during tax-related projects.
• Contribute to R& D tax credit support by assembling records and preparing related backup schedules.
• Assist with day-to-day accounting tasks, including journal entries, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and other recurring financial activities.
• Partner with accounting leadership on special projects and provide support as priorities shift in a fast-moving environment.
• Help organize accounting workflows and support efforts to bring accounting activities into a more internally managed structure.
• Use tools such as Excel to analyze data, build reconciliations, and improve reporting accuracy.• At least 2 years of accounting experience gained through staff accounting, bookkeeping, internships, or similar hands-on finance roles.
• Working knowledge of general ledger accounting, journal entries, and account reconciliation processes.
• Practical experience using QuickBooks in a work setting.
• Strong Excel skills, including the ability to work with Pivot Tables and VLOOKUPs.
• Familiarity with accounts payable, accounts receivable, bank reconciliations, and related accounting entries.
• High attention to detail with strong organizational skills and the ability to research and solve discrepancies independently.
• Exposure to tax support activities, including documentation preparation or coordination with tax professionals, is preferred.
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is preferred; experience with Bill.com, Paylocity, startups, or small-company environments is a plus.
