RN Emergency Department

The Registered Nurse in the Emergency Department (ED) coordinates and implements individualized patient care plans using the nursing process. This role requires prioritization, critical thinking, and decisive judgment to optimize patient outcomes in a fast-paced environment. The nurse collaborates with the healthcare team, provides patient education, delegates care to ancillary personnel, and may precept student nurses and new hires. Adherence to professional, ethical, and regulatory standards is essential. Responsibilities:

• Plan, implement, and evaluate patient care plans based on assessments.
• Prioritize and make critical decisions independently in a fast-paced setting.
• Comply with triage, treatment, evaluation, and documentation guidelines.
• Collaborate with healthcare team to coordinate patient care, including transfers, discharge, and referrals.
• Identify and address barriers to effective communication considering psychosocial, literacy, financial, and cultural factors.
• Provide patient and family education tailored to age, culture, and condition.
• Delegate patient care tasks to ancillary personnel effectively.
• Precept student nurses and new hires as needed.
• Maintain professional and ethical nursing standards per ANA Code of Ethics and state regulations.
• Demonstrate caring attitudes to foster therapeutic relationships.
• Participate in departmental and organizational meetings, education, and quality improvement initiatives.
• Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with infection control, safety, and risk management procedures.
• Complete assigned duties punctually and efficiently.

• Current and active Colorado Registered Nurse (RN) license or Compact license.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (or to be obtained within 90 days of hire).
• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification (or to be obtained within 6 months of hire).
• Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) or Emergency Nurse Pediatric Course (ENPC) certification (or to be obtained within 1 year of hire).
• Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) certification (or to be obtained within 1 year of hire).
• STABLE certification (or to be obtained within 1 year of hire).
• Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification (or to be obtained within 1 year of hire).
• Minimum age of 18 years (21 if driving is required).
• Successful background check, drug screen, and health requirements.

• Bachelor's degree or higher in Nursing, Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, or related field.
• Two (2) years hospital nursing experience.
• One (1) year Emergency Department (ED) or Critical Care Nursing experience.

• Must adhere to professional dress code and organizational policies.
• Maintain strict patient confidentiality at all times.
• Work requires ability to function effectively in a fast-paced, high-stress emergency environment.
• May be required to precept students and new hires.
• Compliance with all regulatory, safety, infection control, and risk management standards is mandatory.

• Night shift position in the Emergency Department.
• Shift assignments determined by departmental needs.
• Work schedule may require flexibility to cover emergency department demands.
