Accounting Specialist
Duties
Duties described reflect the full performance GS-12 level.
Provide technical guidance and oversight for organizational accounting functions, including revolving funds, leave accounts, and construction in progress.
Maintain and manage accounting records within the designated financial management system.
Analyze and interpret accounting data from various organizational units to ensure accuracy and resolve discrepancies.
Interpret and apply federal accounting laws, regulations, and policies to ensure compliance.
Advise program managers on financial matters and provide recommendations based on professional accounting principles.
Develop and implement control procedures to ensure the proper use of appropriated funds and prevent financial mismanagement.
Recommend and establish new policies and procedures to prevent waste, fraud, and abuse of resources.
Provide technical leadership, training, and mentorship to junior accounting staff and non-financial professionals.
Evaluate business practices to identify and recommend process improvements for increased efficiency.
Serve as a primary contact for internal and external audits, providing requested documentation and ensuring the implementation of corrective actions.
