End Client: New York City Department of Social Services (DSS) Job Title: Cloud Infrastructure Engineer Duration: 30 Months Location: Brooklyn, NY 11238 Position Type: Contract Hours Per Week: 35 Hours Interview Type: Webcasting (Camera Required) Ceipal ID: NYC_CLOU729_PH Job Code: DSS-ITS-C-20260729-1 Job Description The New York City Department of Social Services (DSS) is enhancing and modernizing its enterprise infrastructure by expanding cloud-based solutions, improving system availability, strengthening cybersecurity controls, and supporting critical agency applications. The selected consultant will provide technical leadership in designing, implementing, and supporting AWS and Microsoft Azure cloud environments, enterprise server infrastructure, disaster recovery solutions, application hosting, security compliance, and infrastructure modernization initiatives. The consultant will collaborate with development, operations, and project management teams to ensure highly available, scalable, secure, and resilient technology platforms that support DSS mission-critical business systems across the agency. Key Responsibilities: Oversee, plan, manage, and coordinate complex IT infrastructure projects from initiation through completion, including project scope, project plans, work breakdown structures, schedules, deliverables, goals, milestones, risks, resource requirements, and project signoffs using Microsoft cloud solutions. Design, develop, implement, and maintain scalable, secure, and highly available AWS and Microsoft Azure cloud solutions supporting agency applications. Implement and enforce cloud security best practices, including identity management, encryption, vulnerability management, and compliance controls. Manage enterprise Windows infrastructure and direct efforts to evaluate, test, and implement new technologies. Perform server administration, software deployment, systems operations, and activities supporting system reliability and data integrity. Collaborate with development teams to analyze application behavior, troubleshoot usability and performance issues, review deployment configurations, and recommend infrastructure-level improvements. Provide deployment and operational support for web servers, including application configuration, certificate management, and web services configuration and maintenance. Ensure servers, hardware, and software operate accurately and reliably. Troubleshoot infrastructure and application issues in collaboration with developers, infrastructure teams, and vendors. Implement security hardening measures, monitor vulnerabilities, and maintain web server and application security to ensure ongoing protection and compliance. Coordinate with City and State agencies, including OTI and NYSDSS, to evaluate, test, and implement emerging infrastructure technologies. Provide hands-on administration and oversight of enterprise Windows Server environments, software deployment, systems operations, data integrity, backup, and disaster recovery. Architect and implement end-to-end web and application infrastructure integrating firewalls, DNS, and load balancers to ensure high availability, security, and optimal performance. Collaborate with ITS and Project Management staff to effectively complete server-related projects supporting mission-critical applications and agency business needs. Lead and support manual and automated application deployment processes, ensuring version control, configuration consistency, rollback readiness, and minimal production downtime across environments. Required Skills: A minimum of 4 years of experience with the following skill sets: Designing and implementing solutions within Amazon Web Services (AWS), & Microsoft Azure including computer, storage, networking, and serverless platforms. Ability to troubleshoot complex production issues and perform root cause analysis in distributed environments Understanding current and emerging infrastructure technologies and practices and how other organizations are employing them and the ability to identify and act on opportunities for continuous improvement.
