Position Overview Guzman Energy is seeking a talented Real‑Time Trader to join our 24/7 trading desk with a clear path toward a peer‑leadership and supervisory role within the Real‑Time trading group. This is an ideal opportunity for an experienced, motivated trader who thrives in a fast‑paced environment, demonstrates strong collaboration, and aspires to grow into a team‑leading position while continuing to execute at a high trading level. You will manage loads and resources, identify trading opportunities across real‑time markets (WECC, CAISO, SPP, ERCOT, MISO), and gradually take on mentorship and coordination responsibilities. The ideal candidate is self‑directed, performs under pressure, and shows the communication and leadership skills necessary to guide peers and shape desk culture as they advance. Key Responsibilities Real‑Time Trading & Execution Execute real‑time and intraday strategies to optimize resource and load deviations and capture trading value across multiple ISO/RTO markets Monitor market fundamentals (generation, load, transmission, congestion, regulatory developments) and system conditions to identify short‑term opportunities and manage portfolio deviations Take timely, compliant real‑time actions in accordance with NERC, RTO/ISO procedures, and Guzman Energy Risk Management policies Handle NERC tagging functions and procure transmission while maintaining accurate transmission scheduling and E‑tagging. Analyze transactions for compliance and evaluate hedging strategies within company risk guidelines Communicate with Balancing Authorities, Reliability Coordinators, Transmission Operators, and ISO/RTOs to ensure system reliability Maintain compliance with corporate and industry trading policies and reporting requirements Development Toward Leadership Demonstrate collaborative, mentorship‑oriented approach with colleagues through knowledge-sharing and peer feedback Participate in desk strategy discussions and contribute market insights to support overall trading performance Show ownership of continuous improvement through data‑driven performance review and identification of process enhancements Build the communication and decision‑making skills necessary to guide the team during volatile market conditions Foster a culture of accountability, innovation, and alignment with Guzman Energy's mission Path to Supervisor Role Traders in this role who demonstrate exceptional performance, leadership potential, and peer collaboration may be considered for advancement to a Real‑Time Supervisor position. The supervisor role involves: Serving as "Team Captain" of the Real‑Time desk, supporting traders during 24/7 operations Providing day‑to‑day mentorship, trade guidance, and peer feedback to strengthen trader skills Acting as a trading leader during active market conditions and coordinating team responses to volatility and reliability events Partnering with portfolio management and leadership to align intraday and short‑term strategies Required Qualifications 3–5 years of experience as a Real‑Time Trader or energy market trader Bachelor's degree in Business, Economics, Finance, Engineering, or a related quantitative discipline Proven ability to perform under pressure in a fast‑paced, dynamic trading environment Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills with the ability to make quick, informed decisions Ability to work 12‑hour rotating shift schedules (including overnights, weekends, and holidays) as part of a 24/7 operation Proficiency with trading platforms (OATI webSmartOASIS, webSmartTag) and Microsoft Excel Strong organizational skills to handle multiple tasks and interruptions while maintaining accuracy Team player with excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate across the desk and with external counterparties Work ethic, self‑discipline, and attention to detail Preferred Qualifications Supervisory, peer‑leadership, or team lead experience in a trading or operations environment Demonstrated leadership ability and willingness to mentor colleagues Experience with economic dispatch, generation commitment, and load management Familiarity with ISO/RTO markets: CAISO, ERCOT, MISO, PJM, NYISO, ISONE, and/or SPP NERC and/or PJM certification Data programming skills: Python, R, SQL, or dashboard/visualization tools Strong understanding of NERC reliability standards and energy scheduling protocols MBA or graduate degree in related field Demonstrated ability to inspire confidence and drive performance in high‑pressure settings Alignment with Guzman Energy's mission to deliver innovative, equitable, and sustainable energy solutions What Success Looks Like In the first 6–12 months, you will: Master real‑time trading across assigned markets and execute compliant, high‑conviction trades Build strong relationships with colleagues and demonstrate collaboration and reliability Develop deep understanding of Guzman Energy's risk framework, portfolio positioning, and desk strategy Over 12–24+ months, high‑performing traders may: Transition into a peer‑leadership or supervisory role overseeing the Real‑Time trading desk Mentor junior traders and guide desk strategy and culture Lead the team through complex market events and reliability challenges What the Guz Offers Competitive base salary: $85,000 - $130,000 commensurate with experience and Denver, CO market rate Performance‑based bonus opportunity 401(k) with company match Professional development opportunities including project management training Flexible PTO policy Parking or RTD pass subsidy Complimentary gym membership in office building This position is based in our Denver office with an in‑person work requirement.
