Medical Assistant-Certified Pediatrics

Job Summary:

The Medical Assistant-Certified (MA-C) provides essential clinical and administrative support in a busy pediatric outpatient clinic. Key functions include obtaining vital signs, assisting with procedures, specimen collection, performing laboratory tests, and managing office duties such as telephone triage and pharmacy refill requests. The role requires strong clinical skills, professionalism, and the ability to work collaboratively in a pediatric healthcare environment. Responsibilities:

• Prepare patients for exams by recording history, medications, and allergies.
• Set up and assist with procedures such as nebulizer treatments and suture removal.
• Administer injections and immunizations as required.
• Collect and label specimens including throat swabs, urine samples, and perform venipuncture.
• Conduct laboratory tests such as blood glucose monitoring via glucometer.
• Perform office duties including pharmacy calls, patient refill requests, telephone triage, and follow-up phone calls.
• Room patients and administer TB tests as part of professional clinical skills.

Required Skills & Certifications:

• Certified Medical Assistant (MA-C) credential is required.
• Minimum 1 year of experience working as an MA-C in an adult outpatient clinic setting.
• Proficiency in obtaining vital signs and specimen collection.
• Ability to perform injections and immunizations safely.
• Strong communication and telephone triage skills.
• Basic knowledge of pediatric clinical procedures.

Preferred Skills & Certifications:

• Experience with EPIC electronic medical records system.
• Prior experience in a pediatric clinic environment.
• Familiarity with sputum, urine, and throat specimen handling.

Special Considerations:

• This position is not open to Medical Assistant-Registered (MA-R), Medical Assistant-Phlebotomist (MA-P), or Medical Assistant-Hemodialysis Technician (MA-HT) credentials.
• No weekend or on-call requirements.
• Work is performed at the same clinic location daily; no floating between units.
• Free parking is available on site.

Scheduling:

• 4-day workweek, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday.
• 10-hour shifts from 7:30 AM to 6:00 PM.
• Thursdays, weekends, and holidays off.
• 6-month contract with possibility of extension.
