This promotional / openopportunity is open to all interested candidates. This recruitment will be used to establish an eligibility list for current and future vacancies. This list will be good for one month with the possibility to be extended. BASIC FUNCTION: The Translator-Interpreter will translate and produce a variety of general, technical, legal and medical documents, materials and script between English and designated language for schools and district office staff; provide simultaneous interpretations during formal presentations at schools and district meeting sites using district interpretation equipment.
VACANCY / POSITION SPECIFICS:
Working Location: The Translations Department supports various locations throughout the district. The district covers a large portion of San Diego County. Refer to the District Area Map at this Link and make sure to identify all specific area(s) you are interested in working in. The area(s) you identify in your application will be used for any future vacancies filled using the eligibility list from this recruitment. Work Schedule: 12 months per year. While most positions in this job classification are full‑time at 40 hours per week, some may be offered at 30 hours per week. NOTE: This position requires daily travel to different sites to provide interpretation for a variety of meetings, timely completion of translation assignments, as well as a professional commitment to continuous learning of new terms and tools that support our work. Salary: This position is paid on the OTBS Salary Schedule. Grade 038. Positions 20 hours per week or greater qualify for District‑paid health and wellness benefits for the employee and their eligible dependents. Education and Experience: Any combination of training, experience, and/or education equivalent to completion of college‑level courses in the designated foreign language and one year of increasingly responsible experience in translating written documents and providing oral interpretation, preferably in a school environment. NOTE: Your related education and experience must be clearly represented in the work history and education section of your application. How do you ensure accuracy under strict timelines? Please be sure to include the types of documents you have translated as well as the tools and supports you have used when translating. Highlight your experience working with documents related to educational settings. QUESTION 2: Describe your interpreting experience over the past 1-5 years. How has your level of experience and responsibility increased over time? How do you negotiate complex terminology, fast‑paced speech, and ethical guidelines while interpreting? Include types of meetings you have covered as well as the interpreting modes and modalities you have used. Highlight your experience working with documents related to educational settings.
