Medical Director - Correctional Medicine
Job Details:
• Direct and coordinate all medical services for Correctional Health Services
• Collaborate with the Medical Director of Behavioral Health - Correctional Health to deliver effective, integrated care
• Provide clinical oversight for women's health and adult health, using written medical protocols and identifying quality issues
• Modify communication and care approaches to address sensory impairments and patient-specific needs, including older adults
• Maintain strong working relationships with the Sheriff's Department, leadership, vendors, hospitals, patients, and families
• Provide input on developing, revising, and monitoring annual goals for Correctional Health
• Select, train, motivate, supervise, and evaluate provider/physician staff to maximize performance and service quality
• Serve as supervising physician for advanced practice providers and consultant to nursing leadership
• Provide medical education and training for residents, students, and advanced practice providers
• Act as liaison between jail physicians and specialty clinics, ER, and inpatient services
• Maintain current knowledge of rules, regulations, laws, and guidelines affecting Correctional Health operations
• Assist with the development and implementation of medical-related procedures and policies for clinical staff
• Oversee the Associate Director of Performance Improvement and the correctional health quality management program
• Analyze job design, workflows, and processes and implement improvements for effectiveness and efficiency
• Support physician recruitment and lead retention initiatives for Correctional Health providers
• Must have completed ACGME or AMA approved residency
• Board Certified in appropriate specialty required
• Minimum 5 years of management experience in clinical medicine programs required
• Texas Medical License required (or willingness to obtain within 180 days)
• Experience in correctional health environment preferred
• Spanish proficiency preferred
• Strong leadership, communication, and physician collaboration skills required
