Shift Supervisor - Cytogenetics

Position Summary At Stony Brook Medicine, a TH Clinical Laboratory Technologist I/Shift Supervisor is a valued member of the team, responsible for oversight of evening operations to ensure accurate and timely reporting of patient results and compliance with all regulatory standards. Duties Oversee day‑to‑day operations, including assigning duties and tasks to ensure efficient workflow under the direction of the Associate Technical Director. Participate in development, expansion, and implementation of the departmental quality control program; organize and review daily QC activities and take corrective action as necessary. Perform test analysis for the assigned test menu in Cytogenetics, including chromosome analysis and FISH case review. Design, implement, and evaluate education of new clinical laboratory personnel or students mandated by NYS DOH. Diagnose and troubleshoot instrumentation issues and maintain data archiving of imaging systems. Oversee QA functions and monitor staff compliance with regulatory agency standards; take corrective action promptly. Ensure compliance with safe laboratory practices and all safety regulations. Conduct and review linearity, correlation, and QA projects; compile monthly statistics and validate new equipment, instruments, and tests. Maintain a daily working inventory of supplies and reagents and manage the inventory control program. Serve as LS Coordinator: develop new test code worksheets, QC worksheets, and perform interface testing and training. Assist in the development and implementation of annual vendor agreements and budget development for reagents and supplies. Manage timecards in Kronos and serve on organizational hospital committees or task forces. Evaluate staff competencies on all testing procedures annually per regulatory mandates and submit required documentation. Attend continuing education seminars and attain 12 credits per NYS DOH standards. Qualifications Required : Bachelor's degree in Clinical Laboratory Sciences or equivalent; NYSED Licensed Clinical Laboratory Technologist; minimum of six years of Cytogenetics experience with at least two years in a supervisory or administrative capacity; excellent oral and written communication skills. Preferred : Master's Degree in a related field; experience in instrument maintenance within a Cytogenetics Laboratory; experience with CoPath software applications and UroVysion FISH; proficiency in Microsoft 365/Office. Salary The salary range for this position is $105,986 – $134,415 per year, based on experience. Location US-NY-Stony Brook Schedule Full‑time, evening shift supervised by TH Associate Technical Director.
