CODIS SPECIALIST (CLASS CODE 5264)

Professional technical and administrative work assisting the Combined DNA Index System (CODIS) Administrator in overseeing the CODIS database within the DNA unit. Work includes processing DNA samples in the laboratory, ensuring the CODIS database functions effectively, and verifying that DNA evidence is accurately processed for use in criminal investigations. Qualifications A Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university with a major in Forensic Science, Chemistry, Biology, or a closely related scientific field. Twelve (12) semester hours of college coursework including biochemistry, genetics, molecular biology and either statistics or population genetics. Four (4) years of full‑time professional forensic experience as a qualified DNA Analyst. Master's Degree in Forensic Science, Chemistry, Biology, or a closely related field may substitute for one year of professional experience. Ph.D. in Forensic Science, Chemistry, Biology, or a closely related field may substitute for two years of professional experience. Official college transcript must be presented to the New Orleans Civil Service Department within two (2) weeks of application. The Civil Service reserves the right to determine which degrees are considered closely related. Prior to appointment, the hiring agency is required to verify education claimed by the applicant.
