Job Details Location: DBS Headquarters - Chicago, IL 60606 Type: Full Time Education Level: 4 Year Degree Salary Range: $35.00 - $41.00 hourly Travel Percentage: Chicagoland ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Levels runs as directed by the Survey Crew Party Chief Set control points and benchmarks Determine elevations and lay out stakes Operate all survey equipment, including Total Station and GPS Data Collector Set up the instrument for data collection or level runs Mark points of measurement with elevation, station number, ID numbers, or other marks Assist Survey Party Crew Chief as requested Cut and clear brush from survey lines; load and unload equipment Proficiency with operation of total robotic stations, data collectors and GPS systems Plan and conduct topographical surveys, take cross sections Supervise additional staff members assisting in survey assignments Perform other duties as assigned COMPETENCIES Ability to work independently as well as with a crew Can work effectively as a team player Ability to build constructive working relationships characterized by a high level of acceptance, cooperation, and mutual respect for stakeholders Shows insight into the root causes of problems; generates a range of solutions and courses of action with benefits, costs, and risks associated with each Considers both short and long-term interests of the client in making decisions Demonstrates a professional demeanor, high ethical standards, respect, and commitment to service excellence Able to understand the perspective of others before making decisions and taking action QUALIFICATIONS Education: Associate’s degree in Land Surveying, Geomatics, or a related field from an accredited college or university; Bachelor’s degree preferred Job Classification: Non-Exempt Licensure: N/A Experience: Typically 5+ years Report to: Survey Crew Supervisor or Department Head Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills Technical Skills: Knowledge of local government agency standards, specifically IDOT and Illinois Tollway; Detail oriented; Knowledge of Boundary Survey, ALTA and Construction Survey Supervisory Responsibilities: Oversee lower level trainees and crew members PHYSICAL DEMANDS Must be able to sit, walk, stand, reach with hands and arms, stoop or kneel, climb or balance, talk or hear, and use fingers and hands to feel objects, tools, or control. Must be able to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds on occasion. WORKING ENVIRONMENT Work outside extensively and can be exposed to all types of weather. Required driving to job sites in Illinois and Wisconsin may result in a long commute; must possess a valid license. CONTINUING EDUCATION Complete state-required competency. Attend job-related seminars and workshops.
