Principal Architect

Salary: $61,000 - 101,000 per year Requirements:

• We have a formal architecture training or certification requirement, plus 10+ years of applied experience.
• We have hands-on experience delivering system design, application development, testing, and operational stability in complex, large-scale environments.
• We have expertise in one or more programming languages and a strong background in writing, reviewing, and debugging production-grade code.
• We have deep knowledge of software, applications, and architecture, including advanced architecture, application development, and technical processes in areas such as cloud, artificial intelligence, machine learning, or mobile.
• We have experience using enterprise-authorized AI capabilities in architecture and engineering workflows, with strong validation discipline and awareness of data sensitivity.
• We can assess and integrate AI-enabled capabilities into scalable platforms while meeting resilience, security, and auditability expectations.
• We have experience applying advanced methods to solve complex architecture challenges across one or more technical disciplines.
• We have led a product as a product owner or product manager and can align technical direction with business outcomes.
• We can present and communicate complex architectural concepts effectively to senior leaders and executives.
• Preferred: we have formal training or certification in enterprise, solution, or software architecture, such as TOGAF, Open CA, SEI/Carnegie Mellon software architecture, or an equivalent cloud provider Professional or Expert Architect certification from AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
• Preferred: we have experience designing and operating AI/ML platform infrastructure, including model training, fine-tuning, and inference workloads across hybrid and multi-cloud environments.
• Preferred: we are familiar with edge computing, high-risk deployment environments, or regulated infrastructure patterns.
• Preferred: we have established architectural governance frameworks, including design review processes, pattern libraries, and engineering standards at enterprise scale.
• Preferred: we have a background in platform engineering or developer experience tooling, focused on improving engineering velocity through reusable, well-governed foundations.

• We advise cross-functional teams on technology selection, architectural abstractions, and integration patterns to reach the target-state architecture and continuously improve current technologies.
• We define and document foundational platform architecture for neocloud, on-premises, and appliance-based environments, including target-state designs, trade-offs, and standard deployment patterns.
• We align the platform with the firmwide control plane architecture, including abstraction of databases and other services so deployments can run on-premises, in neoclouds, at the edge, or in high-risk locations.
• We guide designs through architectural review gates, including permit to plan, permit to build, permit to deploy, and permit to operate, ensuring required evidence and approvals are in place.
• We develop and maintain multi-year architecture roadmaps aligned with business strategy, AI platform priorities, and engineering capacity.
• We define new architectural patterns where needed to support emerging AI capabilities, and we establish reuse-first, AI-enabled engineering practices and governance across the software development lifecycle.
• We apply enterprise-authorized AI capabilities in our environment to speed up architecture analysis, roadmap development, and design decisions, with human validation and appropriate handling of sensitive data.
• We develop secure, high-quality production code and review and debug code written by others, ensuring alignment with architecture standards and firm controls.
• We ensure engineering teams stay aligned with architectural direction through structured reviews, design feedback, and prioritization of engineering work needed to achieve architectural goals.
• We document proper integration with firmwide services, including identity and access management, while meeting security and compliance controls.
• We serve as the teams primary subject matter expert and help develop technical methods in specialized areas, in line with current product development practices.
