BEHAVIOR SUPPORT ASSISTANT - SCHOOL AGE PROGRAM!

Behavior Support Assistant – School Age Program Full‑Time, Hourly $19.89 – $23.87/hour Shifts: Monday – Friday, 8 am – 3 pm (32.5 hours per week) About Brightway Living & Learning Brightway Living & Learning is a premier non‑profit provider of human services on Long Island, offering educational, residential, day habilitation, and vocational programs for individuals with developmental disabilities. The Role Behavior Support Assistants in our School Age Program work in an ungraded, self‑contained classroom setting, supporting individuals with developmental disabilities by applying principles of applied behavior analysis. The program follows a 12‑month calendar. Qualifications At least 18 credits in psychology or a related area and a minimum of 1‑year experience with individuals with autism or developmental disability, OR an RBT certification with 1‑year experience with individuals with autism or developmental disability. Knowledge, experience, and skill with Applied Behavior Analysis and Positive Behavioral Intervention and Support. Active TA or other certification. SCIP Certification required within 3 months of hire. Will pass Teaching Strategies and ABA within 3 months of hire. Responsibilities Support classroom staff with behavior‑related tasks and activities for students, implementing IEP and Behavior Support Plan. Provide behavior support and crisis intervention for students as assigned daily. Analyze student information to ensure conformity with Behavior Support Plan. Assist classroom staff in implementing the Behavior Support Plan and provide input into behavior programs in collaboration with behavior specialists and support workers. Provide coverage for Behavior Support Staff and Assistants and collaborate on student care. Assess behaviors of students with difficulties and support staff on effective behavioral management. Manage classroom staff’s use of tools and equipment such as token economies, reinforcers, contracts, protective equipment. Participate in team meetings, specialized in‑house training meetings, and relevant external forums (e.g., PBIS, Regional Special Education Technical Assistance Center). Collaborate with behavior specialists and other team members on behavior issues in school and community. Prepare documentation and assessments as requested by Clinical Coordinators, Behavior Specialists or Licensed Psychologist. Participate in bus duty and lunch coverage. Assist with overall program functions such as safety, student intake screenings, bus duty oversight, lunch coverage, and toileting assistance. Maintain RBT documentation of supervision hours per BACB requirements and follow BACB Ethical Guidelines. Physical Demands Move or push tables and other heavy objects up to 20 lbs. Lift or move 20 lbs mats. Run up to 500 feet to attend to students. Kneel, twist, and bend as needed. Respond to fire alarms. Benefits Comprehensive paid training.
