Job Description

The U.S. Bank Law Division is seeking an experienced attorney to join its Operations, Technology and Regulatory Team supporting the Digital Assets and Money Movement business line and related enterprise initiatives. This role will sit at the center of the Bank’s digital asset, blockchain, and next-generation payments efforts, providing legal, product, and regulatory guidance on the development, deployment, and oversight of innovative products and activities.

The attorney will partner closely with business lines, Law Division subject matter experts, risk and compliance, technology teams, and government relations. We are seeking a collaborative, curious, and creative attorney who is eager to understand the Bank’s business and technology, contribute to strategic initiatives, and help solve complex and novel problems.

This is a unique opportunity to work at the forefront of financial innovation, helping shape how the Bank navigates digital assets and emerging money movement. This role offers exposure to cutting-edge legal issues at the intersection of technology, regulation, and financial services as well as enterprise strategy, regulatory engagement, and product development in a highly collaborative environment.

Key Responsibilities:

• Interpret and advise on the GENIUS Act and implementing regulations, as well as other applicable and emerging laws, regulations, and supervisory guidance relevant to digital assets, blockchain, and money movement

• Monitor and assess regulatory and legislative developments and evaluate their impact on enterprise strategy, product design, and operations

• Provide legal support across the digital asset product lifecycle, including structuring, risk assessment, and commercialization of new and emerging offerings

• Partner with business, risk, and technology teams to identify and mitigate legal and regulatory risks associated with digital asset and payments activities

• Support development of risk management strategies for emerging business models, including regulatory, operational, BSA/AML, cyber, and financial risks

• Assist with the review and negotiation of commercial agreements, including vendor, technology, and strategic partnership contracts

• Educate and advise Law Division and business leaders on legal risks, opportunities, and industry best practices

Preferred Skills/Qualifications:

• J.D. and active bar membership in good standing

• 7+ years of legal experience, preferably in financial services, fintech, payments, or regulatory counseling

• Experience in a law firm or in-house legal department

• Background in payments, money movement, technology, trust and custody or with digital currency related legal issues

• Familiarity with banking and payments regulation, securities and commodities considerations, and BSA/AML requirements

• Exposure to blockchain or distributed ledger technology and related business models

• Experience working cross-functionally with business, risk, compliance, and technology teams

• Collaborative: Builds strong relationships and works effectively across functions

• Curious: Demonstrates interest in emerging technologies and evolving regulatory frameworks

• Creative: Brings practical, solutions-oriented thinking to complex issues

• Engaged: Takes initiative and contributes actively to team priorities

• Strong analytical judgment and ability to operate in a rapidly evolving environment

• Excellent communication skills, including the ability to translate complex legal concepts into clear, actionable guidance

The salary range reflects figures based on the primary location, which is listed first. The actual range for the role may differ based on the location of the role. In addition to salary, U.S. Bank offers a comprehensive benefits package, including incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase 401(k) contribution and pension (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). Pay Range: $194,225.00 - $228,500.00
