This position plays a vital role in supporting student achievement by helping students navigate their educational pathways and successfully reach their academic and career goals, whether they are pursuing a degree, certificate, transfer pathway, or workforce credential. Academic Advisors provide personalized guidance on course selection, academic planning, registration, transfer opportunities, and degree completion requirements. Advisors serve as a key resource for students, connecting them with essential campus services such as tutoring, testing, counseling, financial aid, and other support programs that contribute to student success. In addition to individual advising, this position supports college-wide student success initiatives, including Guided Pathways, and collaborates closely with faculty, staff, and campus partners to create a seamless student experience. Advisors facilitate group advising sessions, workshops, presentations, and outreach activities for current and prospective students. They also engage in proactive retention efforts, helping students overcome barriers and stay on track toward completing their educational goals. The Student Services Analyst assesses student learning outcomes, analyzes advising and program data, and contributes to the continuous improvement of advising practices and student success strategies. Essential Functions 45% - Provides professional-level end-to-end Academic Advising to a caseload of students, to support student learning, persistence, and degree completion. Provides one-on-one as well as group academic advising, on-boarding, retention, and academic advising and success support functions to students to ensure ongoing successful progress to completion of degree program. Provides guidance to students on goal setting, decision making, degree and certificate options, transfer pathways, course selection, registration, academic progress and satisfactory progress toward certificate/degree using PeopleSoft and other technology. Identifies academic options including extracurricular activities, study abroad program(s), research, and internships. Provides advice and consultation to students in selection of options best suited to student's goals, interests and skills. As the primary liaison, connects students with academic and personal resources including tutoring, counseling, and career services. Provides ongoing, proactive follow up to ensure student learning and progress outcomes are met. Monitors student academic progress through a variety of reporting tools. 25% - Facilitates change management activities related to Guided Pathways and the case management approach to program advisement. Provides programmatic support of this model by being an institutional resource to improve and advance the advisement role for student success. Works collaboratively and collegially with academic units and student services throughout the colleges and across the district to facilitate comprehensive academic support. Acts as college/department liaison to current and prospective students, faculty, staff, and external groups on issues related to academic advising and success. Coordinates with College and District partners to promote programs on campus and within the community. Develops and delivers training and professional development to faculty and staff on topics related to advising; Interprets and explains College and Maricopa Community College District policies and procedures related to admissions, curriculum, advising, student success, and degree completion. Works with faculty and counselors to develop and deliver student success courses. Supervises and provides work direction to undergraduate student workers as needed. Evaluates performance and provides feedback on occasion. Handles immediate or sensitive issues requiring confidentiality or quality assurance. Escalates matters requiring senior leadership intervention at a Director or Dean level. 15% - Researches program opportunities, industry standards, trends, best practices and emerging technologies. Coordinates projects related to student learning, success, and retention. Implements program outreach and/or recruitment and retention. Prepares and presents at new student orientations and information sessions for current and prospective students. Outreach work to student organizations. Designs, develops, maintains and delivers program resource information, presentations, reports, correspondence, and promotional material. 10% - Develops and assesses student learning outcomes. Conducts assessments. Analyzes and maintains program data to gauge student learning and success as well as program effectiveness. Coordinates, implements and evaluates processes and procedures. Makes recommendations for program improvements. 5% - Performs other duties as assigned Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's Degree in Education, Sociology, Business Administration, Communication, Counseling, Liberal Arts or Sciences, and two (2) years of student services or college teaching experience, or experience coordinating, administering, planning, or evaluating programs. OR An equivalent combination of education and experience is sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job, such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation. Desired Qualifications Master's Degree in Academic Advising, Education, Counseling, Sociology, Liberal Arts, or Sciences discipline Three (3) or more years of experience providing academic advising in a community college or university setting Two (2) or more years of experience in developing presentations, programming, or support structures that support engagement, retention, or successful outcomes for students Two (2) or more years of experience leading or directly assisting with student services projects and initiatives to address student challenges, retention, and completion Two (2) or more years of experience using technology to perform job duties, organize work, and track progress against goals One (1) year of full-time, relevant MCCCD experience within the previous two (2) years Special Working Conditions MCCCD does not sponsor individuals for any type of work visa Travel to campus during the interview/selection process will be at the candidate's own expense May be required to work evenings and weekends May be required to lift or carry up to 25lbs May be required to sit for a prolonged period of time, viewing a computer monitor This is a short-term position with a projected end date of 06/30/2027, with renewal contingent on funding source ADA AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS Positions in this class typically require: reaching, standing, walking, lifting, fingering, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.
