Summary: This position is responsible for assisting either refugee or immigrant families with transitioning their children into the public school system.

Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. This is a Grant Funded position which will end 9/30/2026.

• Introduces, explains, and provides resources to new families utilizing public schools for the first time.
• Completes all required intake documentation for new clients.
• Initiates outreach to adults in the refugee or immigrant communities.
• Assists in enrolling children in school.
• Advocates for the educational needs of the clients in all school related matters.
• Educates and promotes cross cultural understanding and integration into the community and school system.
• Facilitates parent teacher conferences as needed or requested by the school system and participates in Individual Education Plans as requested by parents or the school system.
• Makes appropriate referrals for students to school social worker, guidance counselors, or mental health personnel.
• Develops strong working relationships with English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) teachers and department.
• Assists with the recruitment, training and monitoring of tutors and mentors for students in academic and integration need.
• Maintains accurate records and completes reports in a timely fashion.
• Represents the Agency in the community and workplace in a professional and ethical manner.
• Demonstrates sensitivity to the service population's cultural and socioeconomic characteristics.
• Demonstrates strong interpersonal, decision-making, problem-solving, oral, and written skills.
• Utilizes a basic knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.

Qualifications

Education and/or Experience: High School Diploma or equivalent required with three years of related experience; bachelor's degree preferred. Valid driver's license required. Must be bilingual in English and Spanish.
