Chief Hospitalist Advanced Practice Provider Practitioner

Position Title Chief Hospitalist Advanced Practice Provider Practitioner (APP) – Boston University School of Medicine (BUSM), Department of Hospital Medicine. Overview The Chief APP will develop and lead the strategy, infrastructure, and day‑to‑day operations for APP staff within the Hospitalist Medicine Unit, integrating clinical expertise with administrative leadership to advance the mission of Boston Medical Center. Responsibilities Develop strategy and infrastructure for APP staff within the HMU. Supervise, recruit, train, and conduct performance evaluations for APP staff. Manage operational tasks such as scheduling, workflow improvements, and PTO tracking. Balance clinical responsibilities with administrative duties, providing mentorship and educational leadership. Ensure compliance with all regulatory and licensing requirements for APP staff. Collaborate with department and section leadership on initiatives to improve patient care and workflow. Liaise with the Hospital at Home Medical Director regarding operations and staffing for the Hospital at Home program. Address behavioral issues and adverse interpersonal interactions involving APP staff. Perform additional duties as needed, including educational and research activities defined by the department. Managerial Duties Act as the clinical resource for staff, providing consultation, formal and informal education, mentorship, and literature review. Plan and oversee APP staff educational activities within the Department. Recruit, hire, and onboard new APP staff. Ensure staff meet mandatory training and licensing requirements. Prepare and conduct annual performance reviews in collaboration with physician and department leadership. Manage clinic schedules for APP and program staff to ensure department coverage. Coordinate with Human Resources on related processes. Lead initiatives for workflow and patient‑care improvements. Qualifications Graduate of an accredited APP program with a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree. Minimum 5+ years of independent practice experience. Active Massachusetts license (or ability to obtain within 90 days of employment). Valid federal DEA registration number. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Mastery of required clinical skills. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a commitment to building trust and equity. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and hospital registration systems. Strong leadership and mentorship abilities. Ability to adapt to changes, manage competing demands, and handle unexpected events. Ability to maintain strict confidentiality of health‑sensitive information. Bilingual or multilingual skills beyond English are a plus. Compensation Salary range: $180,800 – $192,000 per year.
