About the Role

The Company is in search of a General Counsel to take its legal function to the next level. As the first in-house legal hire, the successful candidate will be responsible for building and scaling the legal team, establishing essential contracts, processes, and playbooks. This role involves owning complex customer contracting, leading negotiations with enterprise customers, and supporting the company in fundraising activities. The General Counsel will also cover employment and people matters, protect intellectual property, and ensure compliance with a wide range of regulatory requirements, particularly those related to advanced technology work. The ideal candidate for this role at the company is a first-principles, build-it-yourself operator with a strong background in commercial contracting, venture financing, and employment law. They should have a solid grounding in intellectual property relevant to deep tech and a command of the regulatory landscape, including export controls, data and privacy, and safety. The role requires a bias to ship, the ability to operate without bureaucracy, and a focus on practical, risk-calibrated legal advice that supports the business. Experience in a deep tech, hardware, energy, or compute infrastructure company, as well as familiarity with export control regimes and emerging technology regulatory questions, is a plus.
