System Infection Prevention Consultant

In collaboration with the Senior Director of Infection Prevention, the Enterprise Infection Prevention Consultant will develop programs that guide the planning and coordinating of infection prevention and control activities throughout the Children's Health Enterprise (including inpatient and ambulatory areas), leveraging current infection prevention and control science in order to provide a safe environment for patients, healthcare workers and visitors. The Enterprise IP Consultant facilitates and/or collaborates with teams throughout CHST to prevent and control hospital acquired infections and to maintain a constant state of regulatory readiness in alignment with The Joint Commission Infection Control standards. Using advanced epidemiological knowledge, the Enterprise IP consultant serves as a subject matter expert and consultant on various infection prevention issues, according to all hospital and legislated standards.

Responsibilities include creating innovative surveillance strategies for the inpatient and ambulatory settings, preparing and presenting enterprise-level data, maintaining understanding of regulatory standards and guidelines, developing and consulting with education of healthcare workers on Infection Prevention topics, developing processes for monitoring compliance with established infection prevention standards, consulting and serving as the evidence-based practice expert in the creation and revision of evidence-based hospital wide Infection Prevention policies and procedures, consulting on construction and renovation projects, consulting and serving as a subject matter expert for recognition and investigation of clusters and outbreaks of epidemiologically significant organisms, serving and providing insight as an expert resource for infectious diseases, serving on and chairing various internal and external committees, meetings and collaborations, and performing other duties and special projects as assigned.

Work experience required includes at least 5 years clinical (nursing) experience. Education required includes a BSN. Licenses and certifications required include a current license to practice professional nursing in the State of Texas and certification in Infection Control within 2 years of hire.
