Under the general supervision of an Assistant Director of Residential Life, the Residential Life Coordinator (RLC) is responsible for creating and fostering an environment that inspires success for all students through transformative experiences. The RLC will also serve as an educational community standards officer for their residential community, and as a resource to the general campus community for issues concerning student and campus resident life. California State University, Monterey Bay (CSUMB) is a residential campus, therefore the central work of this position is to enhance student learning by developing relationships and community, as well as a sense of belonging and socially just inclusion. California State University, Monterey Bay (CSUMB) is a residential campus, therefore the central work of this position is to enhance student learning by developing relationships and community, as well as a sense of belonging and socially just inclusion. Examples of Duties KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Leadership Development and Supervision:
- Directly supervise, develop, hold accountable and evaluate 10-20 Resident Advisors (RA) and other paraprofessional staff as appropriate.
- Establish a positive atmosphere in the residential community that is conducive to student academic and developmental success (i.e. financial balance outreach, and other support efforts).
- Establish meaningful relationships with residents in the community and provide counseling when residents experience academic, personal, developmental and/or community difficulties.
- Facilitate or support Living Learning Communities (LLC) within their residential community. Academic focuses, specific identities, and personal interests are all showcased within CSUMB's LLC communities. Incorporation of faculty presence and campus/community partners should be integrated throughout efforts.
- Perform a variety of administrative duties, including but not limited to, managing communications, budgeting, providing reports, health and safety checks, check-in/out procedures, room transfers, assessing damage charges and sharing information with supervisors and colleagues.
- Serve on a campus-wide evening, weekend, and campus closure 24/7, 365 on-call crisis response duty rotation alongside fellow live-in professional staff members.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree or the equivalent from an accredited four year college or university in a job-related field.
- 2+ years of experience in planning, coordinating or directing college-level activities for student services programs or in a related field.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Additional experience as live-in staff and Master's Degree in College Student Personnel, Higher Education Administration, Counseling, Sociology, or a related field highly desirable
- Demonstrated supervisory and leadership experience; experience advising student groups; experience working with a multicultural population; familiarity performing community service learning; and demonstrated technical literacy.
- Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to the CSUMB Vision Statement and the core values of mutual respect, collaboration and service orientation, multiculturalism and diversity, community service and institutional excellence.
Special Conditions of Employment SPECIAL CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT Sensitive Positions - This position has been designated as a sensitive position with:
- responsibility for the care, safety and security of people (including children and minors), animals and CSU property
- access to and responsibility for detailed personally identifiable Level 1 confidential information about students, faculty, staff or alumni that is protected, personal or sensitive as defined in the CSU Information Security Data Classification Standards
- control over campus business processes, either through functional roles or system security access
FERPA:
- This position is required to comply with confidentiality requirements outlined in the Department of Education's Family Educational Rights and Privacy and California's Educational Code Chapter 13 regarding sensitive student issues.
Clery Act:
- This position is designated as a Campus Security Authority (CSA). The position is required to participate in training at the direction of the Clery Director and must also promptly report allegations of reportable crimes according to the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act, its accompanying regulations; the California State Education Code, Chapter 15.5, of the Donahoe Higher Education Act, Section 67380; and the California State University system-wide policy, Code EO 1107. CSAs are employees whose job duties fall into one of the following categories:
- Work in a campus police or security department
- Are responsible for campus security
- Are designated as the contact for reporting criminal offenses
- Have significant responsibility for student and campus activities
