Service Manager

Job Overview Service Manager – Grocery. Non‑Exempt. Responsibilities include prompt, efficient and friendly customer service, supervising employees, maintaining store operations, ensuring safety, handling merchandise and accounting duties, and leading performance management. Primary Duties & Responsibilities Maintain a positive, friendly atmosphere and encourage employees to greet customers and provide courteous service. Assist customers in locating products, helping with heavy items, taking requests, and ensuring overall shopping experience. Answer telephone calls promptly and provide helpful assistance. Plan, prepare, and adjust work schedules; assign duties and follow up to ensure completion. Supervise and coordinate activities of all employees across the store. Formulate pricing philosophies and merchandise strategies under store director guidelines. Ensure consistent customer service, addressing specific issues when they arise. Evaluate employee performance and recommend personnel actions such as promotion, transfer, or dismissal. Train staff on safety procedures, create a safe and healthy environment, and fill out accident reports. Compile, store, and analyze managerial data – sales, inventory, ad projections, etc. Order merchandise, verify delivery, ensure quality, and report discrepancies. Train workers on store policies, procedures, and job duties. Ensure compliance of employees with policy, security, sales, and record‑keeping procedures. Determine placement of advertisements and promotional displays. Assist employees and solve performance problems. Explain store services to personal and business accounts for additional business. Understand basics of store accounting and maintain strict adherence to hygiene and dress guidelines. Report to work on time and uphold company policies. Secondary Duties & Responsibilities Identify motivational needs and create an appropriate environment. Stay current with market trends, competition, new products, and merchandising techniques. Provide continuous education on updated company policy and job duties. Sell merchandise or issue merchandise per requisition. Handle cash registers. Recommend cost reduction programs. Review personnel records for accuracy; understand basics of payroll system. Recommend additions, deletions, and shelf allocation for merchandise. Assist in other areas of store as needed. Perform other job‑related duties and special projects. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Problem‑solving skills for variable situations. Arithmetic calculations involving fractions, decimals, and percentages. Interview skills to obtain basic information, direct people, and follow technical manuals. Education & Experience High school diploma or equivalent. Two years or more of similar or related work experience preferred. Supervisory Responsibilities Instruct, assign, review, plan, maintain standards, allocate personnel, and coordinate activities. Select new employees and act on employee problems. Authority to recommend transfers, promotions, discipline, discharge, and salary adjustments. Physical & Working Conditions Medium work requiring occasional exertion up to 50 pounds, frequent up to 20 pounds, constant 10 pounds. Visual requirements and ability to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, reach, stand, walk, pull, lift, grasp, and perform repetitive motions. Exposed to dust, noise, temperature extremes, equipment hazards, electrical shock, chemicals, and solvents. Fast‑paced environment. Equipment Used Pallet jack, box cutter, cash register, knife, trash compactor, cardboard baler, forklift, computer, calculator, telephone, fax machine, two‑wheeler, register computer, ordering machine, limited power equipment, delivery vehicle, Western Union, hunting/fishing license computer, money order machine. Financial Responsibility Authorized to purchase merchandise and supplies and order equipment repairs. Contact & Confidentiality Daily contact with customers, employees, suppliers/vendors, and the general public. Occasional contact with regulatory agencies. Access to confidential pricing, sales, and wage information. Requirements Must be 18 years or older.
