RN Neuro ICU

The SMH Level 3 RN ICU Neuro is a Registered Nurse specializing in the care of critically ill neurological patients in a Medical/Surgical Intensive Care Unit. This role involves providing advanced nursing care to patients with diagnoses such as traumatic brain injury, aneurysm, status epilepticus, stroke, and other critical neurologic conditions. The nurse will work in a state-of-the-art 12-bed ICU, delivering expert care through strong critical thinking, communication, and organizational skills. The position requires at least two years of ICU acute care experience and proficiency in telemetry monitoring, with certifications in BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS. Responsibilities:

• Provide specialized nursing care to critically ill neuro patients in the ICU.
• Perform patient assessments and monitor neurological status using telemetry and other diagnostic tools.
• Administer medications, treatments, and interventions as prescribed.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to develop and implement patient care plans.
• Maintain accurate and timely documentation of patient care and condition changes.
• Respond to emergencies and provide critical care support as needed.
• Participate in on-call, holiday, callback, and charge nurse duties per unit needs.

• Active Registered Nurse license in New York State only.
• Minimum of two years acute care ICU nursing experience.
• Telemetry monitoring experience.
• BLS certification from the American Heart Association.
• ACLS certification from the American Heart Association.
• NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.
• Strong critical thinking, communication, and organizational skills.

• Experience with electronic health record systems such as EPIC in neuro ICU settings.
• Previous charge nurse or leadership experience in critical care units.

• Must be able to work rotating day, evening, and night shifts.
• Participation in holiday, on-call, and callback rotations required.
• Ability to function effectively in a high-acuity neuro ICU environment.
• Compliance with TB skin test requirements.

• Rotating shifts including day, evening, and night rotations as assigned.
• Shift assignments based on unit needs and staffing requirements.
• Inclusion in holiday and on-call/ callback schedules.
