Registered Nurse ICU

The Registered Nurse in the ICU is responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating nursing care for critically ill patients. This role involves providing patient-centered care based on established protocols and standards, managing complex interventions such as mechanical ventilation and hemodynamic monitoring, administering medications including vasoactive drips, and collaborating with the interdisciplinary team to ensure continuity and quality of care. The nurse also plays a key role in patient and family education, documentation, and safety initiatives within a fast-paced critical care environment. Responsibilities:

• Assess and reassess patient condition, develop and implement nursing care plans, and evaluate patient outcomes.
• Provide skilled nursing care in accordance with standards, protocols, and policies, respecting patient dignity and individuality.
• Administer medications and intravenous therapies safely, including vasoactive medications and thrombolytic/anticoagulation therapies.
• Perform and interpret cardiac monitoring, EKG changes, arterial blood gases, and pulse oximetry.
• Manage mechanical ventilation including initiation, maintenance, suctioning, troubleshooting, and weaning of intubated patients.
• Set up and assist with hemodynamic monitoring and related invasive procedures.
• Provide post-operative care and monitor for complications following anesthesia or sedation.
• Conduct patient and family education tailored to learning needs and readiness.
• Document all care and interventions thoroughly and provide timely report to healthcare team members.
• Participate actively in multidisciplinary rounds to coordinate and evaluate patient care.
• Identify and report patient safety risks and ethical issues, and participate in quality improvement initiatives.
• Serve as a preceptor or trainer to promote ongoing learning among colleagues.

• Current Registered Nurse license in Massachusetts.
• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
• Minimum of 1 year medical-surgical nursing experience preferred.
• Previous telemetry experience required.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required; Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) upon hire or within 60 days.

• Intensive Care Unit (ICU) experience preferred.
• Critical Care Registered Nurse (CCRN) certification preferred.

• Work involves physical demands such as lifting up to 50 pounds and frequent reaching and handling.
• Must demonstrate strong behavioral attributes including achievement motivation, flexibility, initiative, teamwork, and analytical thinking.
• May be required to perform duties beyond those explicitly described to meet patient care needs.

• Shift assignments and schedules are determined by the facility; ICU shifts may include day, evening, or night rotations.
• Work in a fast-paced critical care environment requiring flexibility and responsiveness to patient needs.
