Radiation Therapy Medical PhysicistJoin the Radiation Oncology team at Naval Medical Center Portsmouth, VA. This position plays a key role in treatment planning, quality assurance, equipment calibration, and the overall safety and accuracy of radiation delivery to patients. The ideal candidate will have strong technical knowledge and a collaborative approach to patient care.QualificationsEducation:Master's or Doctorate in Physics, Medical Physics, Engineering, Applied Mathematics, or a related physical scienceMust meet American College of Radiation Oncology standards for supporting CT systemsExperience:At least 3 years of experience within the last 5 years as a Therapeutic Medical Physicist in a hospital settingMinimum of 1 year within the last 3 years supporting Stereotactic Radiosurgery (SRS) and Stereotactic Body Radiotherapy (SBRT)Certification (must be certified or eligible for certification):American Board of Medical Physics (Radiation Oncology Physics)American Board of Radiology (Therapeutic Radiological Physics or Radiological Physics), orCanadian College of Physicists in MedicineLicensure:Must have been listed as an Authorized Medical Physicist on a Nuclear Regulatory Commission license within the past 5 yearsScheduleMonday to Friday, 40hrs per week between 6:30 AM and 6:30 PMShared on-call coverageKey ResponsibilitiesAnalyze and validate radiation beam data for treatment machinesEnsure accuracy of treatment planning data used by therapists, dosimetrists, and oncologistsSupport treatment planning for 3D-CRT, IMRT, VMAT, SBRT, and SRS proceduresConduct quality assurance checks after equipment maintenanceProvide training and support to clinical staff and residentsAssist in the development of radiation safety and quality assurance protocolsAttend weekly chart rounds and CQI meetingsSupport data management systems and participate in clinical duties as assignedAbout the RoleThis is a vital position within a multidisciplinary team dedicated to delivering high-quality radiation therapy.
