Senior Scientist I - Cell Culture Process Development
AbbVie
Senior Scientist position in cell culture process development at AbbVie's Worcester, MA bioresearch center. Supports manufacturing of therapeutic proteins through process development, technology transfer, and commercialization activities for CHO cell culture platforms.
Responsibilities
- Develop and characterize productive CHO cell culture processes for cGMP biotherapeutic manufacturing
- Design and execute cell culture experiments using Design of Experiments principles and analyze results
- Lead research initiatives to reduce cost of goods through platform process improvements and new technologies
- Collaborate cross-functionally with analytical, cell line, discovery, and manufacturing teams
- Author and review technical reports, protocols, and maintain GMP compliance documentation
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree plus 10+ years experience, or Master's plus 8+ years, or PhD in chemical/biochemical engineering or related field
- Proven ability to independently design experiments and troubleshoot technical issues
- Strong cell biology knowledge with extensive hands-on mammalian suspension cell culture experience
- Theoretical and practical knowledge to execute job functions
- Experience with cell culture process development and recombinant protein production
- Familiarity with bioreactor perfusion processes and Process Analytical Technology (PAT)
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with strong problem-solving abilities
