Assistant Controller - Full Time; 9161-301-N

For 125 years, Catholic Charities Brooklyn and Queens has been providing quality social services to the neighborhoods of Brooklyn and Queens, and currently offers 160-plus programs and services for children, youth, adults, seniors, and those struggling with mental illness. STATEMENT OF THE JOB: Under the general supervision of the Chief Financial Officer and Controller, the Assistant Controller directs, assists, completes, and supports accounting functions. An effective Assistant Controller has excellent knowledge of accounting principles. They are an organized professional with a great eye for detail and can multi-task. Their goal is to keep the accounting and financial processes of the company up to standard and ensure accurate financial reporting and control. The Assistant Controller will implement, maintain, and enforce accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls that are in compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Procedures. The Assistant Controller assists in coordinating annual GAAP audits as well as the 990’s. The Assistant Controller is responsible for analytical data, to ensure the integrity of the financial statements. They establish and maintain collaborative and strategic alliance with senior management. The Assistant Controller closely supervise and train staff to provide consistent, accurate, and timely reports. Maintain accounting systems to ensure GAAP compliance, financial reporting, performance reporting, and financial viability. Compilation of data, for fiscal reports, including quarterly financial statements and year-end financial statements. Create and disseminate program’s fiscal management reports to CFO, Controller, Program administration, and the VP’s of each line of service. Supervise Accounting Staff to promote consistent, timely, and accurate reports and analysis; and periodically reporting of fiscal performance. Manage journal entries and reconcile accounts for the monthly or annual closing. Take a large role in interfacing with the external auditors and coordinating the audit process as well as the 990’s. Assist in the preparation of financial statements in compliance with official guidelines and requirements. Assist in the development of reports for management or regulatory bodies. Assist in the preparation of budgets or forecasts. Assist with the development of policies, procedures, and training to support internal controls, quality assurance and effective fiscal operations. Assist the CFO and Controller in other special projects as deem necessary. Support the Agency’s mission, vision, and code of ethics as stated in the Agency’s Personnel Policies Manual. QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting is required. Certified Public Accountant License is a plus (Status may be expired or active however the License cannot be listed as Suspended, Rescinded, or Revoked). 7 years of experience or a combination of education and work experience. Proficiency in Word Processing, Excel, Accounting, and Microsoft Applications. May be required to lift at least 10 lbs. Should be able to read printed materials and computer screens.
