Charge Nurse-Fair Oaks Health Center (Open & Promotional)

Overview San Mateo Medical Center's Fair Oaks Health Center in Redwood City is seeking a Charge Nurse to oversee the OB/GYN clinic, Optometry Clinic, and Specialty Clinic (Cardiology, Immunology, Musculoskeletal, Podiatry). The role collaborates with the clinic manager to direct nursing care, coordinate resources, and perform administrative activities while providing leadership and support to staff. Responsibilities Assess, evaluate, and direct nursing activities to provide quality patient care in compliance with prescribed standards. Supervise licensed and non‑licensed staff across the OB/GYN, Optometry, and Specialty Clinics. Ensure adequate staffing and cross‑train staff as appropriate. Interview candidates, conduct performance evaluations, and provide training and disciplinary counseling. Coordinate unit staffing, budgeting, and staff development needs in collaboration with nursing management. Interpret policies and procedures, participate in staff meetings, and coordinate with ancillary support departments for total patient care. Maintain and evaluate records and perform related duties as assigned. Qualifications Registered Nurse licensed in California. BLS certification. At least one year of supervisory experience in an outpatient setting. Experience in education, scheduling for multiple shifts, and excellent communication skills. Knowledge of quality improvement processes, community health systems, and experience working with underserved populations preferred. Bilingual in Spanish and English. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Understand Nurse Practice Act, safety, infection control principles, and nursing theories. Plan, organize, supervise, and evaluate nursing staff. Interpret and apply nursing policies and procedures. Train and instruct professional and paraprofessional employees. Communicate effectively orally and in writing. Prepare reports and maintain accurate records.
