Nurse Educator, Critical Care/PACU, Part time

Position Summary We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Nurse Educator, Critical Care/PACU, Part time. In this role, the successful candidate assesses and analyzes learning needs for nursing staff throughout the Departments of Nursing; plans, implements and evaluates educational activities that support nursing care; participates in the development, supports implementation, and provides education and reinforcement of nursing and patient care standards, evidence‑based practice and nursing research; maintains clinical expertise in a specialty area; demonstrates and fosters collaborative relationships within the Departments of Nursing and other disciplines; participates in Departments of Nursing and hospital committees. Job Responsibilities Fosters a culture embedded in NYULHs tripartite mission: to care, to teach, and to discover. (AONL-Knowledge of the Health Care Environment, ANPD- Leader) Collaborates with interprofessional team to ensure excellence in quality, patient experience, and efficiency. Develops positive and productive relationships across disciplines to establish strategic partnerships to achieve shared goals. (AONL-Communication & Relationship Management, ANPD-Change Agent) Facilitates and supports positive and productive work and care environments, founded in the principles of respect and civility. Demonstrates a steadfast commitment to engaging and meaningfully recognizing staff. (AONL-Business Skills & Principles, ANPD-Mentor) Demonstrates a commitment to lifelong professional growth and development. Utilizes current literature, research, and evidence-based findings in the design, implementation and evaluation of education programs and activities for staff learning and development. (AONL-Leader Within, ANPD-Learning Facilitator) Collaborate with nurse manager to select new hires, mentors, preceptors and ensures that employees are appropriately on‑boarded, oriented, educated, and evaluated. Supports clinical rotations and student nurses in partnership with school affiliations. (AONL-Business Skills & Principles, ANPD-Partner for Practice Transitions) Evaluates the performance, and assesses practice, of designated personnel in a fair and transparent manner. Works collaboratively with clinical leadership to identify learning needs, provides learning opportunities and educational resources for staff in clinical area of responsibility. (AONL-Communication & Relationship Management, ANPD-Learning Facilitator) Serve as role model and resource for staff. Functions as a respectful leader of the health care team; develops and manages employees through the promotion of professional growth and development, mentoring, appreciative coaching, and counseling, as appropriate, in alignment with the principles of a caring, fair, and professional work environment. (AONL-Leader Within, ANPD-Mentor) Ensures that education programs are executed according to established processes, guidelines, and standards of accrediting agencies such as the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) and the State Nurses Association. (AONL-Business Skills & Principles, ANPD- Advocate for NPD Specialty) Collaborates with patient care unit leadership to ensure compliance with regulatory agencies as pertains to staff education and competencies. (AONL-Professionalism, Knowledge of the Health Care Environment, ANPD-Partner for Practice Transitions) Identifies and addresses learning needs of nursing staff in assigned clinical areas and throughout the Departments of Nursing to promote and maintain competency. (AONL-Knowledge of the Health Care Environment, ANPD-Learning Facilitator) Holds self and others accountable for efficiency and feasibility in the delivery of exemplary care. (AONL-Professionalism, Knowledge of the Health Care Environment, ANPD- Leader) Communicates with clarity and integrity to build trust with all stakeholders. Provides education and resources that facilitate age‑appropriate, culturally sensitive, and ethical care for patients. (AONL-Professionalism) (AONL-Communication & Relationship Management, ANPD- Leader) Participates in the drafting of nursing and organizational policy, engaging front‑line staff, and incorporating the precepts of shared governance. (AONL-Professionalism, Knowledge of the Health Care Environment, Communication & Relationship Management, ANPD-Change Agent) Supports data collection in collaboration with the nurse manager and interprofessional team. Analyzes and utilizes data to drive practice changes that integrate quality, safety, patient experience, and productivity metrics to achieve excellence in patient and nursing outcomes. (AONL-Knowledge of the Health Care Environment, ANPD- Champion for Scientific Inquiry) Fosters high reliability concepts within the unit/organizational structure. (AONL-Business Skills & Principles, ANPD-Change Agent) Fosters a culture of inquiry, innovation and transformation with a focus on the future. Participates in and fosters staff involvement in nursing research, quality improvement, and evidence‑based practice efforts. Leads and supports developing of new insights to complex situations, innovative designs, and programs/processes (AONL-Leadership, ANPD- Champion for Scientific Inquiry) Minimum Qualifications Current Registered Professional Nurse licensure in New York State. Master’s degree in nursing education. Certification in Nursing Education required upon eligibility. Ability to apply nursing process toward achievement of specific outcomes in an organized fashion to address patient/family satisfaction and quality indicators. Evidence of excellent communication (both oral and written), interpersonal, organization, critical thinking, problem solving, and leadership skills. Basic Life Support Certification through the American Heart Association. Three to five years of clinical experience in a specialty area, or combination of staff nurse/leadership experience in the specialty area. Registered Nurse License‑NYS. Preferred Qualifications Participation in pertinent professional organizations. Qualified candidates must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.
