Responsibilities

• Verify medical necessity for admission or continued services and monitor ongoing need for care; support discharge planning and transitions
• Collaborate with providers and the care team to ensure appropriate utilization and timely patient care
• Maintain accurate clinical documentation and coding to support proper reimbursement
• Communicate with payers to prevent denials; ensure compliance with CMS and Joint Commission requirements
• Monitor resource use, contribute to quality improvement, and support reporting related to utilization review activities
• Serve as a liaison among clinical care, finance, and regulatory requirements to align patient care with reimbursement standards

Requirements

• Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing
• License/Certification: Valid, current, unrestricted RN license (in any U.S. state, territory, or the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico); AZ state license not required
• Certification: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association
• Experience: Minimum three (3) years of direct patient care; at least two (2) years in inpatient medical-surgical units, PACU, or higher-acuity inpatient settings (ICU, Step-Down, Telemetry, etc.) or equivalent direct care experience; experience with case management, purchased referred care, and utilization review processes; familiarity with electronic health record systems
• Additional: Demonstrated knowledge of electronic health record systems and ability to work in an inpatient/outpatient UR environment
