Patient Care Associate: General Surgery/Trauma-B3 36 hrs/week Days

Patient Care Assistant (PCA) Department/Unit: General Surgery/Trauma-B3 Work Shift: Day (United States of America) Salary Range: $43,599.00 - $56,679.00 The Patient Care Assistant (PCA) works under the direction of the Registered Nurse and is responsible for collecting patient data, completing personal care, performing point‑of‑care testing, turning and mobilizing patients, and assisting with the needs of assigned patients to facilitate discharge. In addition, the PCA may provide activity companionship for patients requiring observation and help maintain a clean, orderly, and safe environment of care. Collect patient data, including vital signs, height and weight, and food and fluid intake/output. Report abnormal findings to the RN and patient care team. Participate in care planning and the nursing report process. Utilize standardized techniques to keep patients and families informed. Provide personal care, including bathing, oral care, skin care, eating, hydration, grooming, dressing, and toileting. Incorporate safe patient handling into basic restorative care such as ambulation, range of motion, and use of assistive and prosthetic devices. Employ strategies to promote a clean, orderly, and safe environment, and demonstrate standard precautions and infection control techniques. Provide details related to patient progress toward goals and outcomes to the RN and document all care in the patient record. Assist in the delivery of patient care provided by the caregiving team and ensure that competent, compassionate care is uniformly provided to patients. Collaborate with Materiel Coordinators for use, stocking, and storage of supplies. Perform technical procedures such as blood draw and electrocardiography. This role may require access to information considered sensitive, including HIPAA Protected Health Information and other information regulated by Federal and New York State statutes.
