Duties Duties If selected for this position, you will serve as a Legal Administrative Specialist (Case Manager) in the Criminal and Civil Division providing a wide range of legal and administrative services to one or more Assistant United States Attorneys (AUSAs) involved in a variety of criminal and civil matters for the United States Attorney\'s Office, Eastern District of Arkansas . Typical duties include: Providing general administrative support for assigned cases by entering and updating information about pending cases in case management software. Performing a variety of litigation support functions necessary to prepare, organize, index, develop, manage, and track exhibits, evidence and data in criminal and civil cases and matters. Receiving, organizing and storing incoming discoveries and evidentiary material. Managing discovery in various formats, including paper documents, PDF files, image files, audio files, video files, forensic reports, proprietary files, and other electronic file types. Conducting factual and legal research in legal and nonlegal databases in support of investigations and cases. Drafting routine legal documents such as routine motions, pretrial filings, summonses, subpoenas, satisfactions of judgements, and other routine legal documents. Providing support to legal team during court proceedings, e.g., using trial presentation software and courtroom equipment to display exhibits or demonstratives, maintaining accounting system of exhibits entered into evidence, and managing witnesses. Using software applications to perform basic processing of electronic discovery materials. Organizing and preparing written summaries of witness statements and testimony, audio or video recordings, and documentary evidence. Preparing exhibits and demonstratives for use in legal proceedings. Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress. Requirements Help Conditions of employment You must be a U.S. Citizen or National. Initial appointment is conditioned upon a satisfactory pre-employment adjudication. This includes fingerprint, credit and tax checks, and drug testing. Continued employment is subject to a favorable adjudication of a background investigation. You must be registered for Selective Service, if applicable. If selected, you may be required to complete a one year probationary period. Time-in-Grade: Federal employees must meet time-in-grade requirements within 30 days after the closing date of this announcement. You must meet all qualification and eligibility requirements within 30 days after the closing date of this announcement and before placement in the position. Qualifications GS-09 : To be qualified at the GS-9 grade level, you must meet at least ONE of the following conditions, as defined below: Specialized Experience, Education, OR a combination of Education and Experience. Specialized Experience: At least one full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-7 grade level in Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector. Specialized experience is define as experience providing automated litigation assistance such as maintaining accurate records regarding incoming electronic case materials; assisting attorneys in trial preparation such as preparing subpoenas, trial exhibits, information requests, pleadings, and correspondence; and providing legal and administrative support to attorneys including examining and preparing legal documents, cite-checking, tracking cases, and/or discovery processing. OR Education: Master\'s Degree or equivalent graduate degree in a related field (e.g., Legal Studies, Law, Criminal Justice); OR 2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree; OR LL.B. or J.D., if related. Education at the graduate level must be obtained in an accredited college or university and demonstrates the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to perform the duties of the position. OR Combination of Education and Experience : Combinations of successfully completed graduate education and experience may be used to meet total qualification requirements. In order to qualify based on a combination, graduate education must be in excess of 1 full year. To calculate your percentage of graduate education, first determine the total number of graduate hours that exceed 18 semester hours (or your school\'s definition of one year of graduate study), then divide the total number of your excess graduate semester hours by 18 (or your school\'s definition of one year of graduate study). To calculate your percentage of qualifying experience, divide your total number of months of qualifying experience by 12. Now, add the two percentages together. The sum of the percentages must equal at least 100%. GS-11: To be qualified at the GS-11 grade level, you must meet at least ONE of the following conditions, as defined below: Specialized Experience, Education, OR a combination of Education and Experience. Specialized Experience: At least one full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 grade level in federal service obtained in either the private or public sector. Specialized experience is defined as experience providing technical advice to litigation teams on legal automation requirements and system capabilities; organizing and managing voluminous case information; analyzing litigation support requirements to develop or recommend appropriate strategies to meet litigation needs; and setting up computers and/or generating electronic discovery productions that comply with production specifications and/or deadlines. OR Education: One of the following types of education in a related field (e.g., Legal Studies, Law, Criminal Justice): a Ph.D. or equivalent doctorate degree; OR 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree; OR LL.M., if related. Education at the graduate level must be in an accredited college or university and must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the duties of the position. OR Combining Education and Experience: Combinations of successfully completed graduate education and experience may be used to meet total qualification requirements. In order to qualify based on a combination, graduate education must be in excess of 2 full years. The sum of the percentages must equal at least 100%. Interagency Career Transition Assistance Plan (ICTAP): The ICTAP provides eligible displaced Federal competitive service employees with selection priority over other candidates for competitive service vacancies.
