Departmental Overview

The College of Engineering at UC Berkeley is recognized for its educational and research excellence, consistently ranking among the top three Engineering colleges in the United States. With more than 247 regular faculty members, 2,421 graduate students and 4,320 undergraduate students located in seven academic departments, Engineering is the second largest college on the Berkeley Campus.

The College Relations Department supports the College's core projects and programs through marketing, communications, and private fundraising efforts designed to reach over 60,000 alumni, friends, students, foundations, and corporate partners. During the Light the Way campaign the College of Engineering received $900 million in private gifts and is consistently among the top fundraising units within the university.

The Associate Director of Donor Relations and Campaign Operations is responsible for implementing and managing a comprehensive and coordinated suite of programs to steward donors of the College of Engineering. The Associate Director is a multi-tasker with strong project management skills; an experienced professional with excellent writing and advanced communication ability, and superior organizational skills.

Responsibilities

  • Fundraising & Donor Relations Implementation: Plans, schedules, and implements fundraising and donor relations projects and programs, including the annual fund, alumni relations outreach, and corporate/individual donor activities. This includes drafting written materials (email acknowledgments, donor reports, and online impact content) and designing donor communications and outreach for leadership giving and specific Engineering campaigns. Ensures all activities and stewardship touchpoints are accurately recorded in the advancement database.
  • Analysis & Program Recommendation: Provides analysis of complex results and makes recommendations to management for program changes. Utilizes custom fund groupings reports to build stewardship calendars and analyzes data associated with lifelong and loyal giving recognition programs. Collaborates with the Director of Advancement Services to ensure proper reporting operations, resolve technical issues, and develop appropriate protocols, metrics, and evaluations for program success.
  • Fundraising Goals: Ensures that predetermined fundraising goals are met. General expectation is that the position will facilitate programs that raise a minimum of $500k. This includes gifts that come in through coordination of peer-to-peer fundraising efforts this role will manage.
  • Strategic Planning & Materials: Develops strategies within existing policy guidelines and participates in short- and long-range strategic planning. Creates materials (including one-pagers, folders, and cards) for key populations such as Dean's Society members. Serves as a liaison to other school units, ensuring compliance with donor stewardship policies, naming opportunities, and University record-keeping guidelines.
  • Donor Cultivation & Gift Officer Support: Identifies, cultivates, solicits and / or stewards donors. Works closely with gift officers to identify donors requiring personalized engagement and provides donor relations support to complement and advance the activities of the major gifts team.
  • Fund Development & Annual Solicitation Planning: Assists in the detailed planning of fund development and annual solicitation programs in coordination with Berkeley Engineering Fund team leads. Manages the stewardship calendar and activities for the Dean's Society and serves as the lead fundraising support for peer-to-peer fundraising initiatives.
  • Events & Stewardship Interaction: Designs, organizes, and implements small-scale stewardship meetings and events with direct interaction with alumni and donors. Serves as a stewardship partner to program leads on donor relations events to ensure high-touch engagement and specialized recognition.
  • Coordination & Oversight: Coordinates the work of support staff and / or other professionals.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
  • Thorough working knowledge of fundraising, donor relations, and public relations concepts, principles, procedures, and techniques.
  • Thorough working knowledge of the location, its vision, mission, goals, objectives, achievements and infrastructure.
  • Strong knowledge of applicable laws, rules, regulations, policies, etc.
  • Strong written and interpersonal communication skills to establish and maintain good working relationships throughout the organization and with outside constituencies.
  • Strong organizational, analytical and critical thinking skills, including skills in creative and effective decision-making and problem identification / avoidance / resolution, and project management skills.
  • Strong skills in maintaining confidentiality.

Under California law, the University of California, Berkeley is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role and should not offer a salary outside of the range posted in this job announcement. This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, analysis of internal equity, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience.

The budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $91,500 to $130,200 yearly ($7,625 to $10,850 monthly); the full salary range for this title (FUNDRAISER 3) is $91,500 to $168,900 yearly. This is a 100% FTE career position eligible for full benefits. This position is FLSA Exempt and paid monthly.
